Department Overview

Global Execution Services (GES) team is a specialized execution consulting and trading group that provides agency brokerage, algorithmic trading, and execution strategy solutions to institutional clients. The team focuses on optimizing trade execution across global equity, options, and foreign exchange markets, leveraging Instinet’s electronic trading platforms, analytics, and market microstructure expertise.

Role Description

As a Linux Engineer you will play a vital role in ensuring the stability and performance of our Linux-based infrastructure. This will include ensuring operations run consistently in a standard way across all regions and that data is appropriately stored, protected or archived within agreed service levels. As part of the 24/7 service be responsible for incident and change management and provide technical guidance to other members of the team or other infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

• Full life cycle management of all Linux systems
• Provide technical excellence and guidance in best practice
• Actively seeking opportunities to improve the processes, technologies and stability of the Linux estate.
• Performing routine system maintenance
• Auditing & implementing remediation actions to comply with IT Governance policies and procedures.
• Performing root cause problem investigations and implementation remediation.
• Use Jira & ServiceNow to coordinate department activities and be able to develop dashboards and reports that measure success.
• Work to deliver new technology such that its adoption and configuration is standard between all regions and collaborate with development groups to enable the features meeting the needs of the company.
• Partaking in On-Call Rota (Inc. Weekend Work).
• Use Ansible for configuration management and uniform deployment.
• Ability to create concise, clean, and clear technically documented re-usable code and understand the philosophy of coding (IaC).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Linux Engineer role, with a solid understanding of Linux operating systems, including experience with installations, configurations, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in enterprise Linux (RHEL), including certification, and hands-on experience with RedHat Satellite for global server management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with a strong command of the English and Cantonese language
• Proficiency in containerization (OpenShift, Rancher) and Linux kernel/FPGA/network offloading is essential, alongside F5 load balancers and basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS).
• Familiarity with server infrastructure (Dell/HP), provisioning tools (Satellite, DHCP, PXE, Kickstart), and web servers (Apache/NGINX) is expected.
• Strong scripting/automation skills (Ansible, Python, Perl, Java) and experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) are required, along with troubleshooting, SAN/NAS knowledge, and security best practices.
• The role also values documentation, collaboration, and communication skills, including fluency in English. Desirable additions include network technologies (SNMP, LDAP, LAN/WAN), and a learning-oriented mindset
• Entry-Level Linux Experience: While experienced candidates are encouraged, entry-level candidates or recent graduates with a passion for Linux are also welcomed.
• Strong team player with willingness to teach and learn from others.
