The Opportunity
Design and manage public roadway lighting systems in Queensland and across Australia. Coordination with Energy Queensland and other public power supply authorities, local councils, and roadway networks. Utilise technical expertise to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative lighting solutions for a diverse range of projects, ensuring compliance with the relevant standards and client requirements.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Comply with all role-specific Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) obligations.
  • Apply safety in design principles to all lighting projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for lighting projects.
  • Lead the roadway lighting engineering aspects of projects, including project management and client liaison.
  • Support fee proposal submissions and contribute to winning new lighting projects.
  • Ensure all designs and implementations comply with relevant state Energy requirements, legislation, standards, guidelines, and project specifications.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior staff in roadway lighting engineering.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions on major projects.
  • Participate in innovation and continuous improvement initiatives related to roadway lighting design and technology.


Qualifications (Minimum and Desirable)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or on-the-job industry experience in the field of roadway lighting.
  • Additional certifications in lighting design or related fields are highly regarded.


Experience, Skills, and Organisational Knowledge

  • Typically, 5+ years’ experience in lighting engineering or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in lighting design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Experience with reviewing lighting modelling tools.
  • Proven ability to apply safety in design to lighting projects.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience leading lighting engineering aspects of projects.
  • Ability to manage scope, timelines, and budgets for multiple projects.
  • Experience in client relations and delivering the best client outcomes.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines for lighting engineering.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks in lighting projects.
  • Commitment to quality assurance and occupational health & safety systems.
  • Active participation in professional development and industry initiatives.
  • Ability to balance innovation, quality, and technical excellence with project delivery.
  • Flexible and resilient under pressure.
