In this role you will be responsible for design and development of safety-critical products such as steering wheels and airbags for passenger and commercial vehicles. You will need to deliver high-quality engineering outputs, support project execution, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer and organizational expectations.
Should you be interested in overseeing these tasks and aiming for enhanced performance standards, your role will involve:
Design and develop steering wheel and airbag systems for automotive applications
Create and release 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack-up
Prepare and manage BOM, DFMEA, DFM & A, Design Reviews, and DVP activities
Ensure compliance with engineering schedules and project timelines
Support prototype builds and liaise with testing teams for validation activities
Evaluate test results and ensure product performance meets requirements
Update and manage engineering data in PLM systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Project Management, Purchase, Quality, Production, and Suppliers
Participate in customer and supplier interactions for design discussions, trials, and issue resolution
Escalate project risks and challenges in a timely manner
If you have/are:
Diploma/Graduate in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering
6–8 years of experience (or Diploma with 9–10 years) in automotive industry (Tier 1 preferred)
Experience in design and development of safety-critical components (steering wheels, airbags)
Hands-on experience in sheet metal and plastic component design
Working knowledge of CATIA V5 and PLM systems (basic level)
Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFMEA, and DFM & A
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and collaboration skills
Proficiency in English (Kannada and Hindi preferred; Japanese/Korean is an advantage)
