Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Provide hands-on infrastructure and technical support for end users operating within a secure and complex Federal Government environment.

As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer with Kinetic IT, you’ll support the delivery and maintenance of core infrastructure services, assisting with incidents and service requests across devices, identity, messaging, collaboration, networks and servers. Working alongside experienced engineers and specialist teams, you’ll develop your technical skills while contributing to the reliable operation of enterprise IT environments.

You’ll work across a predominantly Microsoft-based environment, gaining exposure to enterprise monitoring, security, networking and Linux platforms.

This role is 100% onsite in a secure environment and requires Australian citizenship and an active NV2 Australian Government security clearance.

The focus is on providing responsive technical support, developing your infrastructure troubleshooting skills, documenting solutions and helping improve the reliability of IT services.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide first- and second-level infrastructure support for field-based end users, assisting with incidents and service requests through investigation, troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Assist with supporting Microsoft infrastructure and workplace services, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Exchange, SharePoint, MECM/SCCM and endpoint environments.
  • Troubleshoot common hardware, software, connectivity, account access and configuration issues, escalating more complex incidents to senior engineers or specialist teams when required.
  • Assist with endpoint security activities, information protection, vulnerability remediation and routine infrastructure maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with senior engineers, SME teams, vendors and service owners to investigate technical issues and ensure timely updates and effective handovers.
  • Maintain accurate incident records, technical documentation and support procedures, contributing to knowledge sharing and continuous service improvement.
  • Develop an understanding of enterprise monitoring, diagnostics, networking, server infrastructure and Linux environments through practical experience and guidance from experienced team members.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and contribute to process improvements, knowledge articles and opportunities to automate routine support tasks.

What we’re looking for:

  • Australian Citizenship and an active high level Australian Government security clearance (NV2).
  • Experience in desktop support or junior infrastructure role, with a strong interest in developing a career in infrastructure engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and endpoint management.
  • An understanding of basic networking concepts, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • An interest in enterprise infrastructure technologies, including identity and access management, messaging, collaboration platforms, endpoint security, monitoring, servers and Linux.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies, follow established procedures and develop technical troubleshooting skills under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to users and colleagues.
  • A methodical approach to problem-solving, incident documentation, prioritisation and escalation.
  • A collaborative mindset, attention to detail and a proactive attitude towards learning, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
