The Associate Grants and Contracts Specialist, in the Office of Research’s Pre-Award Research Administration Division, supports the institutional review, acceptance, and implementation of sponsored research awards, contracts, and related agreements. Performs administrative and compliance reviews of sponsored award documents, establishes award records within institutional systems, coordinates award setup activities, and assists with project activation.Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree, and at least three years of related research administration experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience working in higher education, healthcare, government, or nonprofit administration is preferred.Experience interpreting policies, reviewing documentation, or maintaining financial or administrative records is desirable.Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to utilize online financial systems.
*Demonstrated computer skills, and advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including advanced spreadsheet and database software skills.
*Demonstrated analytical skills, and ability to work with large financial data sets.
*Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse constituent population.
*Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to be task- and detail-oriented.Preferred Skills and Abilities:
*Strong understanding of Sponsored Projects and Research Administration.*Familiarity with federal agencies such as NIH, NSF, DoD, DOE, HRSA, or other sponsors.Essential duties:
*Review sponsored research awards, amendments, agreements, and related documents for completeness and compliance with institutional procedures;
*Performing research compliance activities;
*Review award documents to identify basic administrative requirements, reporting obligations, and sponsor restrictions;
*Acting as a liaison between faculty, staff, and outside funders on all grant and contract related matters;
*Assisting faculty and staff with university pre- and post-award requirements and processes; *Establish and maintain award records within the university's electronic research administration and financial systems
*Providing assistance in locating funding opportunities from government, non-profit, and industrial/corporate sources;
*Reviewing and interpreting external sponsor guidelines;
*Assisting in proposal preparation;
*Validating completeness of proposals prior to submission;
*Verify that award budgets and financial information are accurately reflected within university systems. *Coordinate award setup activities with departmental administrators, principal investigators, financial offices, and Research Administration staff. *Communicate with sponsors and internal stakeholders to obtain missing documentation and resolve routine award setup issues. *Identify discrepancies within award documentation and escalate complex issues to senior staff.
*Accepting and reviewing award terms and conditions;
*Educating faculty Principal Investigators and research personnel on systems such as NSF Fastlane, NIH Commons and eRA, and on University and Sponsor regulations and guidelines, and updated policy and procedures;
*Preparing internal pre-award related reports; and
*Responding to inquiries from executive level University administration concerning specific grant and contract information.Please note this position will work remotely, the duration of remote work will be at the discretion of Temple University and the department.
