This is the entry level of the GIS Technologist classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve problems, in GIS areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. Associate GIS Technologist supports the operation and maintenance of the company GIS application by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be input by others.
With close supervision:
Maintain and support the company's GIS system by posting, updating, and maintaining utility asset data for electric distribution.
Review design drawings, maps, plats, redlines, and related documentation and accurately model those assets in GIS.
Gather, analyze, and maintain geospatial data used as the utility system's system of record.
Identify, analyze, and resolve GIS data issues and discrepancies.
Perform QA/QC activities to ensure GIS data accuracy and completeness.
Correct data quality errors and verify compliance with GIS business rules and standards.
Communicate with Work Order Owners, Designers, Engineers, and Field personnel to obtain missing information.
Associate’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Science, Geology or Other related degree
In lieu of Associate’s degree(s) listed above, High School/GED AND four (4) or more years related work experience
Certified GIS professional.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Experience in the utility industry.
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
Associate Degree in GIS (or equivalent), or 4+ years equivalent industry experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
A GIS Certificate will be considered in conjunction with any Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree.
