Location: Kurla (with global responsibilities across all manufacturing sites for strategic procurement)

The Global Procurement Strategy & Category Leadership will lead procurement strategy, sourcing operations, and supplier partnerships for all direct materials — including APIs, excipients, intermediates, and packaging components — across multiple global sites.

This is a strategic and data-driven leadership role that combines deep domain expertise in pharmaceutical procurement with strong global market insight, vendor management, and digital transformation capabilities.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing global sourcing strategies, leveraging data analytics to optimize cost, quality, and supply resilience, and driving vendor diversification, digitization, and value creation initiatives aligned with the organization’s global business goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration; MBA preferred.

  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in direct procurement within pharmaceuticals or life sciences.
  • Proven expertise in global sourcing of raw materials, APIs, intermediates, and packaging materials.
  • Strong understanding of pharma regulatory and quality standards (GxP, cGMP, ICH guidelines).
  • Demonstrated experience in data analytics, spend optimization, and digital procurement platforms (SAP, Ariba, GEP).
  • Global vendor management exposure with multi-regional team leadership experience.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Global Procurement Strategy & Category Leadership

  • Design and execute global and regional procurement strategies for APIs, intermediates, excipients, and packaging materials.
  • Align sourcing objectives across all manufacturing sites to ensure consistency, compliance, and economies of scale.
  • Lead global vendor segmentation and strategy formulation — including alternate vendor development and localization opportunities.
  • Drive cost optimization, supply continuity, and risk mitigation through robust category management frameworks.
  • Ensure procurement activities meet global GxP, cGMP, ICH, and regulatory compliance standards.

2. Data Analytics, Insights & Strategy Definition

  • Build and lead a data analytics framework to capture, analyze, and interpret procurement, spend, and supplier performance data from all sites.
  • Translate analytical insights into actionable sourcing strategies — including cost modeling, forecast planning, and market risk assessments.
  • Develop and track global KPIs and dashboards for spend efficiency, supplier reliability, on-time delivery, and sustainability metrics.
  • Leverage predictive analytics and AI-driven tools to anticipate market movements, supply risks, and pricing trends.

3. Alternate Vendor Development & Global Supplier Management

  • Identify, qualify, and onboard alternate and strategic global suppliers to ensure supply security and business continuity.
  • Establish robust supplier evaluation and scorecard systems using data-driven performance metrics.
  • Negotiate global contracts to drive value, innovation, and sustainability across the vendor ecosystem.
  • Foster long-term partnerships with global and regional suppliers for innovation and co-development initiatives.

4. Digitization & Process Excellence

  • Champion end-to-end digital procurement transformation — implementing and optimizing tools like SAP, Ariba, GEP, and analytics platforms for seamless sourcing, reporting, and supplier collaboration.
  • Standardize procurement processes across global sites and drive automation and analytics adoption.
  • Establish a centralized data hub for procurement intelligence and decision-making.
  • Promote a data-first culture, empowering teams to use analytics for continuous improvement.

5. Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Partner with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure alignment of procurement goals with business and product strategies.
  • Collaborate with global procurement teams to ensure consistency, transparency, and best practice sharing across all regions.
  • Engage with senior management using data-driven presentations and strategic recommendations to influence key business decisions.

6. Leadership, Capability Building & Change Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, globally dispersed procurement team.
  • Build future-ready procurement capabilities — including digital fluency, data analytics proficiency, and category expertise.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, agility, and continuous learning across teams and suppliers.
  • Lead change management initiatives to embed analytics-driven and digital-first procurement practices globally.
