Job Title: Associate Engineering Manager
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Engineering Director / Vice President
Location: Bangalore, India
At Crisis24, the Associate Engineering Manager oversees the AI data pipeline platform, collaborates with engineers to design and develop scalable C# applications, offers technical guidance, and enforces coding, design, quality, and performance best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership
• Lead design, architecture, and implementation of features within a mission-critical enterprise platform application built on C#, .NET Core, and .NET Framework, running on AWS.
• Evaluate and improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Champion the modernization of the application, defining and executing a roadmap to migrate to modern .NET Core patterns, microservices architecture, and cloud-native practices.
• Oversee database schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning across MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure best practices in code quality, testing, CI/CD, and cloud deployment.
• Drive adoption of modern development practices, frameworks, and tools.
Team & Project Management
• Manage and mentor a team of approximately 10 engineers, including full-time employees and contractors, across varying experience levels, ensuring consistent performance, alignment, and growth.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical feedback, and facilitate knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and stakeholders to translate business needs into well-scoped technical solutions aligned with the application roadmap.
• Help plan sprints, prioritize tasks, and remove technical blockers.
• Drive team growth by participating in hiring, onboarding, and developing talent to build a high-performing, self-sufficient engineering team.
System & Platform Responsibilities
• Maintain secure and reliable AWS infrastructure for the application, leveraging services such as SQS, EKS, Cognito, and related AWS tooling for deployment, monitoring, and logging.
• Identify technical debt in the codebase and work with the Architecture team to define and implement a structured modernization strategy.
• Ensure high availability, stability, and scalability of the application while balancing ongoing feature delivery with modernization efforts.
• Implement automated alerts, monitoring tools, and incident-response processes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 10-12 years of professional software development experience, with at least 2-3 years in an engineering leadership or management role.
• Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, and .NET Framework, with experience designing and maintaining large-scale enterprise applications.
• Deep experience with MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Solid hands-on experience with AWS services, including SQS, EKS, Cognito, S3, CloudWatch, and related tooling.
• Experience of containerized microservices development and hosting on AWS.
• Experience building APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of software architecture principles including microservices, SOLID, and distributed systems design, with proven experience modernizing legacy codebases.
• Demonstrated experience managing a team of 10 or more engineers, including contractors, with a track record of growing team capability and fostering a high-performance culture.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as AWS SQS, SNS, or similar queuing technologies.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes (EKS).
SOFT SKILLS
• Strong communication and collaboration skills are important.
• Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical partners.
• Problem-solving mindset and ownership mentality.
• Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on development.
