The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join our Materials Technology team based on the Gold Coast or in Brisbane

In this role, you will contribute to a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across a variety of sectors (water & wastewater, transport, ports and maritime) ranging from medium-scale works to complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. With a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, you will play a key role in strengthening our capability in materials performance, durability, and condition assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide materials and durability engineering services across SMEC’s Queensland operations
  • Conduct condition assessments and diagnostic testing of structures, including reinforced concrete, steel and timber
  • Prepare high-quality inspection reports and repair specifications
  • Contribute to the growth of the team’s capability in asset remediation, structural assessment and materials engineering
  • Deliver contract administration and site supervision on remedial projects
  • Mentor and support junior team members
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Support the preparation of EOIs and proposals to secure new work
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards
  • Maintain compliance with SMEC technical standards and quality systems

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials, Structural Engineering or related discipline
  • RPEQ or ability to obtain
  • Proven experience developing durability plans, service life modelling, materials specifications and selection advice
  • Strong capability in condition assessment, inspection reporting and remediation design
  • Experience providing construction-phase support
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build client relationships
  • Experience contributing to successful proposals and business development
