Job Description

Summary

rovide electrical engineering expertise and direction for equipment and control systems utilized in utility generation and transmission of electric power (high-, medium-, and low-voltage power, metering, control, security, and fire alarm systems), and customer utilization electrical systems (medium- and low-voltage power, metering, control, and fire alarm systems). Develop solutions for electrical power and control systems in generation, transmission, or customer utilization sites as assigned. Ensure that standards of quality, economics, safety, reliability, maintainability, timeliness, and performance are met through all assigned engineering activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsible engineer function in support of a limited range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities & practices
  • Perform field visits to observe or support construction and maintenance activities and administer basic on-site technical support.
  • Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of projects and/or O&M activities
  • Perform research on applicable codes, standards and procedures and apply to work tasks appropriately.
  • Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
  • For assigned work and projects, provide supervision of maintenance department(s) staff, and contractors, and prepare and monitor the day-to-day work activities of the crafts. Work with planners in scheduling work activities; oversee the safety of employees. Review job packages to ensure they are complete and current prior to performance of the work. Review completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify all steps are complete and to ensure that all data/information is recorded.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic competency in the design, operation and maintenance of electrical systems specific to the electric utility, or commercial/industrial industry, along with their various systems and components
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects with guidance.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations, and adapt standard specifications, scopes of work, reports, and design packages to specific projects.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related work experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel, primarily within NY State
  • Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required.

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
