BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) is a $4.5B+ business that is focused on redefining care delivery with a category-leading portfolio of products that are ubiquitous to clinicians and essential to healthcare. MDS is the global leader in vascular access and medication delivery.

The Associate Director, Strategy and Business Development reports to the MDS VP of Strategy and Business Development with an objective to accelerate growth and innovation for the MDS business. This role will have to collaborate with global business leaders, key regions and key cross-functional team members. They will primarily be focused on (i) identifying, evaluating and executing partnership, licensing and acquisition opportunities for MDS, (ii) leading innovation efforts to identify and evaluate strategic opportunities to accelerate growth platforms across MDS and (iii) supporting strategic analysis to influence the overall direction of MDS.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or support strategic assessments of adjacent market opportunities, including conducting ethnographic research, identifying current standard of care and needs through qualitative interviews, developing quantitative surveys for execution and building detailed market models and business cases

  • Build market landscapes to understand current state, competitive environment, opportunities, needs, and develop plans that include internal and external innovation

  • Drive the execution of innovation projects in alignment with BD’s innovation playbook

  • Maintain an up-to-date business development pipeline for MDS with a mix of partnership opportunities as well as large and small tuck-in acquisitions

  • Establish and cultivate external relationships with potential partners and/or acquisition targets

  • Support the negotiation and transactional execution of business development projects, including term sheet definition, negotiation strategy development and overall deal execution (i.e. signing/closing)

  • Support the acquisition process, including articulating the strategic rationale, working with Corporate Development / Finance teams to build business cases, developing presentation materials, leading cross-functional diligence efforts and providing regular updates to the MDS LT for active projects

  • Collaborate strongly with platforms, regions, R&D, medical affairs, regulatory, and other MDS team members

  • Support the Annual Strategic Review (ASR) process

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the medical device industry within a combination of marketing, strategy, business development and/or product development roles

  • Experience in identifying market opportunities, market segmentation, completing competitive analysis and hypothesis-driven market research

  • Experience building complex market models and developing business cases

  • Experience with innovation processes, developing innovation roadmaps and innovation projects/initiatives

  • Experience structuring, negotiating and closing business development-related transactions

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or influencing decisions without direct ownership

  • Strong business acumen with excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities in a fast paced, high-growth environment

  • Strategic mindset, result orientation, high level of accountability, growth mindset

  • High integrity and ethics and strong fit with BD values

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • M.B.A., Master’s degree, or other advanced degree a plus
