Data Enterprise reporting IT services for HSBC’s “Second line of Defense” Enterprise Technology - FinX. Given HSBC’s global and universal banking model, the FinX Function is structured to “Protect and enable” HSBC’s global businesses across all regions. FinX Data and Enterprise Reporting (DER) function within Enterprise Technology provides technology services covering areas of underwriting, monitoring and product management for wholesale business across the enterprise.

Job Description — Band 4.1: Infra & Tech Lead Specialist (Trino/Starburst SME) | GFDP‑RDP‑On‑Prem
In this role, you will:
- Provide senior technical leadership and deep operational expertise for GFDP‑RDP‑On‑Prem, driving platform resilience, transformation and uplift across RTB and MTB.
- Own the technical and product stewardship of Trino/Starburst, including operational stability, performance optimisation, upgrades, standards, and support for tenant consumption.
- Lead end-to-end tenant onboarding for new use cases, covering infrastructure provisioning, ingestion onboarding, ETL enablement, and CI/CD integration to deliver predictable go-live outcomes.
- Act as the senior technical lead for complex cross-platform troubleshooting across the full lineage (network/firewalls/load balancers, ingestion, ETL, consumption), driving permanent fixes and prevention patterns.
- Hold formal accountability for platform controls as ITSO delegate, ensuring ongoing compliance with mandatory/regulatory requirements and maintaining licence to operate.
- Drive operational excellence through release governance and production readiness disciplines, improving stability, change success, and GRAS outcomes.
- Lead platform modernisation and evergreening initiatives, ensuring technical currency and safe adoption of upgrades with minimal business disruption.
- Maximise automation and reduce operational toil by partnering with IT communities of practice and adopting best-practice tooling, techniques, and processes.
- Provide leadership across the pod, guiding engineers, coordinating across partner teams, and ensuring senior-level outcomes without relying on dedicated PM/Scrum support where absent.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Must have proven experience owning production platform stability (incident/problem management, RCA, preventative engineering) in a regulated enterprise environment.
- Must have strong experience with distributed query/consumption platforms, ideally Trino/Starburst, including configuration standards, performance tuning, capacity planning, and upgrade execution.
- Must have strong experience with CI/CD and automation (e.g., Ansible/Jenkins, Git workflows), including designing repeatable deployment patterns and operational runbooks.
- Must have experience operating/supporting multi-tenant platforms, including segregation, permissions, controlled deployments, and fair resource utilisation.
- Must have strong knowledge of Linux/UNIX systems and advanced troubleshooting skills (log analysis, service behaviour, configuration debugging).
- Must have practical knowledge of networking fundamentals relevant to platform operations (firewalls, load balancers, connectivity, TLS), and the ability to coordinate resolution across infrastructure/network teams.
- Must have experience implementing and maintaining DevSecOps controls, including access management, segregation of duties, change management, and audit evidence mindset.
- Must have strong capability to lead cross-team technical triage, influence decisions, and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders.
Preferred / good to have (aligned to key programmes delivered):
- Experience delivering Tier uplift / resilience improvements (e.g., RTO/RPO alignment, failover/role-swap patterns, recovery automation and testing).
- Experience designing and implementing high-availability user environments (e.g., production JupyterHub with load balancing / HOT-HOT style patterns).
- Experience leading large-scale evergreening and vulnerability remediation across a sizeable server estate with minimal disruption to tenants.
- Familiarity with data platform integrations and operational tooling (e.g., Splunk/AppDynamics or equivalent monitoring; scheduling/orchestration tools such as Control‑M).
- Experience with secrets management and control operations (e.g., Vault patterns, certificate renewals, key rotation processes).
