About the Role

Papua New Guinea is a significant contributor to ANZ Institutional, supporting multinational and local corporates across key sectors including Diversified Industries, Resources, Energy & Infrastructure, and Food, Beverage & Agriculture. ANZ plays a leading role in the market, supporting clients through strong relationships, sector insight and integrated banking solutions.

As an Associate Director, Resources, Energy & Infrastructure, you will lead the coverage of a portfolio of institutional clients across REI, with accountability for delivering sustainable, risk-adjusted revenue outcomes.

You are responsible for developing and executing portfolio strategies, including identifying sector-specific opportunities and client priorities, and delivering integrated banking solutions aligned to client needs and ANZ’s Institutional strategy. The role ensures strong governance, credit discipline and non-financial risk management across the portfolio, while representing ANZ in the market through active client engagement.

What will your day look like?

• Lead and grow a portfolio of institutional clients, delivering revenue, return, and portfolio performance objectives.
• Develop and execute portfolio strategies, identifying sector-specific growth opportunities and market trends.
• Build and maintain senior executive relationships, positioning ANZ as a trusted strategic partner.
• Originate and deliver complex, multi-product banking solutions across Lending, Transaction Banking, and Markets.
• Execute ANZ Institutional strategy across the assigned portfolio (DI / REI / FBA), driving sustainable business growth.
• Identify emerging risks, opportunities, and industry developments to support client and portfolio outcomes.
• Drive cross-sell opportunities and leverage ANZ’s product capabilities and geographic network to deepen client relationships.
• Maintain strong credit governance through proactive identification, assessment, and management of portfolio risks.
• Apply sound commercial and credit judgment, partnering with Risk teams on transaction structuring and exposure management.
• Lead end-to-end transaction execution, including structuring, approvals, documentation, and implementation.
• Collaborate effectively with Product, Risk, Research & Analysis (R&A), Operations, and offshore teams to deliver high-quality client outcomes.
• Ensure excellent execution standards while balancing client needs, risk management, and commercial objectives.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

• Strong knowledge of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) market, including key industries, regulatory frameworks, and macroeconomic drivers.
• Extensive experience in Corporate and Institutional Banking, with a strong understanding of client needs and market dynamics.
• Proven relationship management capability, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and build trusted, long-term partnerships.
• Demonstrated success in originating, structuring, and delivering complex banking and financing solutions.
• Strong commercial acumen and credit risk expertise, with the ability to assess, manage, and escalate risks appropriately.
• Sound understanding of credit fundamentals, risk frameworks, and portfolio management principles.
• Proven ability to develop and execute client, sector, and portfolio strategies to drive sustainable growth and profitability.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Risk, Operations, and support teams.
• Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity, balancing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring, and developing team capability.
• Strong execution focus, with the ability to manage transactions and client outcomes from origination through to implementation.
