We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The Role

The role contributes to the delivery of the department’s operating plan, supporting the implementation of claims strategy, operational best practice and service standards. The role also supports senior leadership through technical input, client engagement and continuous improvement initiatives across people, process and technology.

  • Act as a referral point for the team on complex or sensitive claims issues.

  • Guide claims strategy, including coverage interpretation, insurer engagement and resolution approach.

  • Review and prepare claims documentation, ensuring accuracy and appropriate presentation to markets.

  • Maintain oversight of claims progress, ensuring service levels and quality standards are met.

Client, market and stakeholder engagement

  • Manage relationships with clients, brokers, insurers and other stakeholders.

  • Communicate clearly and proactively, providing updates and resolving issues.

  • Negotiate with insurers and markets to achieve the best possible client outcomes.

  • Support client meetings, renewals and tenders where required.

Operational excellence and governance

  • Ensure claims are handled in line with internal policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor workflows and ensure adherence to agreed processes and controls.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across claims systems.

  • Identify and support improvements to processes, data quality and efficiency.

Team leadership and development

  • Manage and support the performance and development of direct reports.

  • Provide coaching, technical guidance and oversight to team members.

  • Review and sign off work to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Contribute to recruitment and onboarding activity within the team.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience managing complex or high-value insurance claims within Lloyd’s, UK or international (re)insurance markets.

  • Strong working knowledge of property, liability and business interruption claims, ideally within renewable energy or natural resources.

  • Experience acting as a technical referral point or supporting the development of others.

  • Demonstrated experience engaging with clients, brokers and insurers, including negotiating claim outcomes.

  • Experience contributing to operational improvements, data quality or process enhancement initiatives.

  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements and compliant claims handling practices.

  • Experience supporting or leading team performance, coaching or supervision of others.
