Job Title: Associate Director, RDU IT - AI

Accountabilities:

• Generative AI Solutions: Lead the design, development, and delivery of innovative AI-powered solutions that address complex business challenges and create measurable value for users and the organization.
• Agentic AI Development: Guide the end-to-end development of AI agents, from ideation and experimentation through secure, scalable, and production-ready deployment.
• ML and GenAI Platforms: Architect and continuously improve cloud-native platforms, infrastructure, and tooling that enable efficient model training, deployment, experimentation, and lifecycle management.
• Model Integration and Adoption: Integrate pre-trained and custom AI models into products, platforms, and workflows to unlock new capabilities and enhance user experiences.
• User Experiences and APIs: Work together with diverse groups to create intuitive user experiences and reliable APIs that encourage widespread adoption and accessibility of AI capabilities.
• Data Engineering for AI: Design and maintain high-quality data pipelines and preparation processes that enable effective model performance while supporting responsible and ethical use of data.
• Operational Excellence: Establish observability, performance measures, and monitoring practices for AI applications, promoting reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement.
• Reusable Solutions and MLOps: Develop reusable frameworks, accelerators, and engineering guidelines that enable teams to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently and consistently.
• Collaborator Partnership: Work closely with business, product, data, and engineering collaborators to translate business needs into technical solutions and deliver meaningful outcomes.
• Responsible AI and Governance: Champion ethical, transparent, and compliant AI practices, ensuring solutions align with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and responsible AI principles.

Essential Skills/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
• 6+ years of experience in Machine Learning, data science, or software development
• Strong understanding and practical experience with advanced ML Engineering concepts and tools, including Docker/containerization, orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and robust MLOps practices for end-to-end model lifecycle management
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and optimizing robust CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Bitbucket pipelines for automated ML model deployment and continuous integration
• Proficiency in Python programming. Deep experience applying and optimizing leading ML libraries like TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch for complex Generative AI applications and research.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure or GCP
• Comprehensive understanding of software engineering principles, composition patterns, and guidelines (e.g., modular compose, testing, code review), with proven experience managing or significantly contributing within agile development methodologies
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, combined with enthusiasm for working in a multi-functional team environment. Capable of clearly articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical collaborators. Able to guide multi-functional teams toward project goals.
• Proactive and eager to learn with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• Experience applying AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated industries.
• Master's degree or comparable experience, PhD or comparable experience, or an advanced background in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience leading or contributing to the delivery of complex, production-scale Generative AI solutions from concept through deployment and operationalization.
• Experience working with Responsible AI, AI governance, model risk management, or AI compliance frameworks.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the growth and development of engineering and data science professionals.
