Job Description
Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is seeking an Associate Director of Pathology to join its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Brooklyn, New York.
This physician leader will work closely with the Chief of Pathology to provide clinical expertise, administrative leadership, and operational oversight while maintaining an active pathology practice. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced pathologist who is passionate about academic medicine, quality improvement, and delivering exceptional patient care in a diverse urban community.
Position Highlights
- Provide physician leadership in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
- Partner with the Chief of Pathology to oversee departmental operations, quality initiatives, and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with hospital and laboratory leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, patient safety, and operational excellence.
- Participate in physician recruitment, mentoring, and professional development.
- Represent the department during accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections.
- Develop and implement departmental policies, quality improvement initiatives, and performance standards.
- Provide diagnostic services in surgical pathology, cytopathology, frozen section consultation, and other areas of pathology practice.
- Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, Medical Staff committees, and departmental call coverage.
- Contribute to the education of medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals, as applicable.
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
- Current or eligible New York State medical license.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
- Prior physician leadership or administrative experience preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, quality improvement, education, and collaborative leadership.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:
- Annual base salary: $281,000
- Participation in 403(b) and 457 retirement plans, including a 10% employer contribution with no employee match required
- Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) reimbursement of $3,000–$3,500, plus one week of paid CME leave
