ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID OPERATIONS

The Position Under the general direction of the Director, the Associate Director assumes responsibility for the day-to-day administration of Cal State LA’s comprehensive student financial aid delivery system, which encompasses over 50,000 applications, more than 18,000 recipients, and an annual program volume of approximately $280 million. The incumbent assists the Director in the planning, development, implementation, and coordination of all phases of federal, state, and University financial aid programs to ensure alignment with departmental and institutional objectives. The Associate Director works collaboratively with staff to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of quality financial aid services in accordance with applicable federal and state statutes, regulations, and University policies. The incumbent provides guidance on the resolution of complex student appeals and requests for exceptions, ensuring that decisions are made within established regulatory and policy frameworks. In the absence of the Director, the Associate Director serves as the senior administrative officer for the department, representing the Director at meetings and exercising delegated authority to act on the Director’s behalf.

Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Business, Education, Social Sciences or a related field. Six years of professional financial aid experience, which must include a minimum of three years of managerial/supervisory experience in a college or university financial aid office. Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations. Knowledge of and experience in an automated student financial aid system at a large college or university. Excellent skills in writing, public speaking, interpersonal interaction with staff and supervision. Ability to work well under pressure. Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field. Experience in PeopleSoft student information system, WebGrants, Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), Blackbaud, On-Base, and the National Student Loan Database Systems. Ability to plan and implement technical projects.

Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $5,053- $16,221monthly. (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $5,053 - $7,845/Monthly) A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
