Job Description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Associate Director of Development in Australia.

This role sits at the heart of a mission-driven fundraising function, focused on building and strengthening long-term relationships with high-value donors to advance large-scale conservation goals. You will manage a substantial portfolio of philanthropic partners, guiding them through meaningful engagement journeys and securing significant financial commitments in support of global environmental impact. Working closely with conservation experts and cross-regional teams, you will translate scientific and programmatic work into compelling donor narratives that inspire sustained investment. This is a highly relational and strategic role, blending frontline fundraising, portfolio management, and partnership development. You will also contribute to donor strategy, stewardship events, and complex negotiations while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. Operating in a flexible, field-connected environment, you will play a key role in expanding global support for nature conservation initiatives.

Accountabilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 75–125 high-capacity donors, including individuals capable of giving $1M+ commitments.
  • Develop and execute donor engagement strategies, including cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation activities to achieve annual fundraising goals of $1M+.
  • Conduct high-touch relationship management, including approximately 125 donor visits and 275 engagement moves per year.
  • Build and maintain a robust donor pipeline, including prospect identification, research, qualification, and advancement through the giving cycle.
  • Lead direct solicitation efforts, including making asks and closing gifts of $25,000+ and higher-value contributions.
  • Collaborate closely with conservation teams to translate program impact into compelling donor communications, proposals, and reports.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and prospect records in CRM systems and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Plan and support stewardship events, donor visits, and engagement opportunities to strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Coordinate with regional and global colleagues to align fundraising strategies and share key developments.
  • Manage sensitive negotiations and projects, ensuring confidentiality, budget adherence, and organizational alignment.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, development, or donor relations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Proven success in building and sustaining long-term relationships with high-value donors or fundraising stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated experience securing major gifts of $25,000+ and managing complex donor portfolios.
    • Strong track record in pipeline management, prospect tracking, and fundraising strategy execution.
    • Experience working collaboratively across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
    • Solid understanding of fundraising principles, donor engagement strategies, and philanthropic best practices.
    • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to inspire and influence diverse audiences.
    • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with comfort managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including to remote locations when required.
    • Benefits

      • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and responsibilities.
      • Comprehensive benefits package (healthcare, retirement plans, parental leave, and paid time off, depending on location).
      • Flexible working arrangements supporting work-life balance.
      • Opportunity to contribute directly to global conservation and environmental impact initiatives.
      • Exposure to international teams, high-level donors, and cross-regional collaboration.
      • Professional development and learning opportunities within a mission-driven organization.
      • Inclusive and values-driven culture focused on collaboration, respect, and impact.
