Job Description

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq ARWR) is a commercial stage biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines that treat intractable diseases by silencing the genes that cause them. Using a broad portfolio of RNA chemistries and efficient modes of delivery, Arrowhead therapies trigger the RNA interference mechanism to induce rapid, deep, and durable knockdown of target genes. RNA interference, or RNAi, is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. Arrowhead’s RNAi-based therapeutics leverage this natural pathway of gene silencing.

Arrowhead is focused on developing innovative drugs for diseases with a genetic basis, typically characterized by the overproduction of one or more proteins that are involved with disease. The depth and versatility of our RNAi technologies enables us to potentially address conditions in virtually any therapeutic area and pursue disease targets that are not otherwise addressable by small molecules and biologics. Arrowhead is leading the field in bringing the promise of RNAi to address diseases outside of the liver, and our clinical pipeline includes disease targets in the liver and lung with a promising pipeline of preclinical candidates.

Arrowhead’s corporate headquarters is in Pasadena, CA with research and development teams in Madison, WI & San Diego, CA, and a state of the art manufacturing facility in Verona, WI. Our employees are nimble, science-driven innovators who are collaborating to bring new therapies to patients in need.

The Position

Let's do something amazing together! The Associate Director, National Accounts will play a critical role in enabling patient access to Arrowhead's first commercial asset, Redemplo (plozasiran, siRNA targeting APOC3), as well as an expanding pipeline of innovative therapies across multiple therapeutic areas. This product has demonstrated compelling clinical data to date and received approval in November 2025 for the treatment of Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS). Redemplo (plozasiran) remains in late-stage development for the treatment of Severe Hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG), with approval anticipated in Q2 2027.

This individual will own a dedicated portfolio of payer and PBM accounts while also serving as a strategic, customer-facing partner to the National Account Directors (NADs) on Arrowhead's broader national accounts, and as a centralized source of truth for payer contracts, formulary coverage, payer policies, and utilization management criteria across Arrowhead's U.S. Market Access footprint. The role will translate formulary, claims, and specialty pharmacy data into payer strategy and field-facing insights, partnering closely with the NADs, Trade, Distribution, and Patient Services leadership to strengthen Arrowhead's payer intelligence capabilities and represent that intelligence directly to internal leadership and external payer and PBM audiences. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, requiring high executive presence, polished presentation skills, and the confidence to stand alongside the NADs in front of senior payer and PBM stakeholders.

This is a field-based or remote role that requires periodic travel to Arrowhead's Corporate Headquarters in Pasadena, CA, and to payer and PBM industry conferences, as business needs dictate

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the centralized source of truth for payer formulary coverage, published payer policies, and utilization management (UM) criteria, including prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limit requirements, across Commercial, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid books of business
  • Monitor and analyze formularies and policy databases to track payer coverage decisions, formulary tier placement, and UM criteria across assigned payer and PBM accounts
  • Analyze pharmacy claims data to identify prior authorization trends, claims patterns, approval and denial rates that signal emerging access barriers
  • Coordinate with Trade, Distribution, and Patient Services to analyze HUB and specialty pharmacy patient-journey data, translating claims and PA insights into access trends
  • Develop and deliver regular communications to the field on payer coverage wins, policy changes, and key analytical insights to support account and sales team pull-through
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Market Access, Trade, Distribution, Patient Services, Sales, Commercial Analytics, and Finance to address payer access challenges
  • Ensure full compliance with US healthcare regulations, legal standards, and corporate policies in all analyses and communications

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform payer strategy and communications
  • Ability to build credibility and influence cross-functionally without direct authority in a highly matrixed environment
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, able to operate with strategic independence
  • High executive presence and polished presentation skills, with the ability to present confidently to internal senior leadership and external payer and PBM audiences
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% for payer and PBM meetings, industry conferences, and periodic visits to Arrowhead’s corporate headquarters in Pasadena, California.
