Job Description

Shape strategy. Influence critical decisions. Create impact across the Group.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in shaping strategic priorities and initiatives across Westpac Group. As an Associate Director in Group Strategy, you’ll work on some of the organisation’s most important and complex opportunities, helping senior leaders navigate ambiguity, evaluate strategic options and make well-informed decisions.

You’ll lead defined workstreams within larger strategic programs and take ownership of discrete projects spanning a range of businesses across the Group. Bringing together analysis, commercial insight and compelling storytelling, you’ll help turn complex challenges into practical strategies and persuasive cases for change.

  • Lead strategic projects and workstreams that address complex business challenges and support critical decision-making.
  • Translate analysis, data and stakeholder insights into clear strategic recommendations and compelling cases for change.
  • Develop executive-level materials and presentations for senior leaders, the Executive Team and Board.
  • Build strong relationships across the Group, influencing stakeholders and driving alignment on strategic priorities.
  • Deliver high-quality outcomes while contributing to the development of colleagues and broader Group Strategy capability.

About you:

You’re a curious and commercially minded strategic thinker who enjoys making sense of complexity. You combine rigorous analysis with strong judgement and communication skills, enabling you to form a clear point of view and bring stakeholders with you.

  • Experience in strategy, management consulting or a related commercial role, with a track record of leading complex projects, workstreams or teams.
  • Strong strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience influencing and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management capabilities, with the ability to work effectively across a large, complex organisation.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes, balancing attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Advanced PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills. Financial services experience and postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded

Above all, you'll be intellectually curious, commercially minded and comfortable operating between the detail and the bigger picture. You'll bring a collaborative approach, sound judgement and the ability to translate complex analysis into clear strategic direction that drives meaningful outcomes across Westpac Group.
