Position Type: Full TimeThe Associate Director of Maintenance provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for maintenance activities across multiple facilities. The role is accountable for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of plant assets while driving standardized maintenance practices, continuous improvement, and long-term asset health across the enterprise.
The Associate Director leads Maintenance Managers at each site and has direct responsibility for Reliability Engineers. This role works in close partnership with Instrumentation and Control Systems Leadership to ensure alignment between mechanical, electrical, and control system reliability, supporting overall plant performance and operational stability.
The role owns multi-site maintenance budgets, maintenance performance outcomes, and capital investment related to asset renewal and new equipment. The Associate Director establishes maintenance KPIs and targets, drives performance against those targets, and reports results, risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements across all sites.
- Promote a strong safety culture and oversee risk management and standardized maintenance practices, including CMMS governance.

Maintenance Strategy & Multi-Site Leadership
- Define and execute the enterprise maintenance strategy, standards, and work management processes.
- Lead and develop Maintenance Managers and Reliability Engineers, ensuring clear accountability and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide oversight of maintenance performance across sites, holding teams accountable for safety, reliability, cost, and execution.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Drive initiatives to reduce downtime, eliminate chronic failures, and improve asset reliability.
- Partner with reliability resources to implement PM optimization, failure elimination, and sustainable asset care practices.
- Monitor asset health and proactively manage operational risk.

Financial & Capital Management
- Own multi-site maintenance budgets and drive cost optimization while protecting reliability and safety.
- Lead capital planning and execution for asset renewal, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Partner cross-functionally to prioritize and justify capital investments aligned with business needs.

Performance Management & Reporting
- Define and standardize maintenance KPIs and reporting.
- Drive performance accountability through data-driven decision-making and CMMS insights.
- Communicate performance, risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership.

Quality, Systems & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Partner with Quality to ensure maintenance supports compliance, audits, and product integrity.
- Ensure effective use and standardization of CMMS across all facilities.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Procurement to align maintenance with business objectives.

ICS Collaboration
- Partner with ICS to align maintenance strategies with control system reliability, standards, and system integrity.
- Coordinate on change management, cybersecurity, and long-term asset and system performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in maintenance, reliability, or engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- 5+years Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams, including direct leadership of managers or senior technical roles.
- Strong experience in maintenance and reliability practices (preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis) and solid knowledge of Instrumentation and Control Systems (ICS), including PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, and industrial automation.
- Proficiency in CMMS systems and maintenance work management processes.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to drive accountability across teams.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Experience implementing or leading Professional Maintenance (PM) pillar methodologies within World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), or similar structured maintenance excellence frameworks.
- Knowledge of and experience with digital maintenance tools, predictive maintenance technologies, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
