
The Associate Director, Nursing, Central Support, is responsible for developing and overseeing the daily operations for the Enterprise Staffing Pool (ESP), Services With Out Territory (SWOT), Inpatient Adult Phlebotomy, Video Monitoring Unit (VMU), Central Monitoring Unit (CMU), House Operations Managers (HOMs), and Staffing Office delivered at the University of Iowa Health Care. The Associate Director Nursing, Central Support will work across divisional lines to foster a collaborative, team approach to provide efficient, quality care and support for all patients while embracing the organization's culture, mission, vision, and values. Additional responsibilities include a focus on process improvements, clinical outcomes, staff development, resource management, and will role model service excellence throughout the organization.
HumanResourcesManagement:Benchmark, develop, recommend, review, and monitor staffing models. Hire, develop, and manage the performance of the unit, nurses, and nurse managers. May have final authority for HR transactions.
Operations, StandardsofCare.RegulatoryCompliance, QualityandPatientSatisfaction: Provide coordination and administration across nursing units to improve operations, ensure regulatory compliance and achieve patient/ customer satisfaction/ quality goals. Review nursing activities and make recommendations for changes in processes to support improved clinical quality, and service and value.
PatientCare/ServicesDelivery: Research, develop and implement best practices to improve nursing care delivery across units. Work with other areas and units on implementation. Collaborate with nurse managers and directors from multiple disciplines regarding care and/ or service quality/ delivery.
PlanningandGoalManagement: Analyze operational and business processes as appropriate to support improved nursing services for quality patient care that is of high value. Assist in developing strategic plans, and implementation plans with nurse managers and monitor progress.
Communication/Collaboration:Coordinate communication and support collaboration among nurse managers, directors, and the Chief Nursing Officer. Engage and collaborate with all nursing areas to identify opportunities for improvement.
Education Programs: Develop nursing education programming to develop competency of staff. Design clinical education and coaching plans to develop staff competency and professionalism.
ResearchAdministration: Develop and coordinate evidence-based practice research initiatives and work with nurse managers to incorporate best practices into unit operations.
Percent of Time: 100%, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday with flexibility to meet divisional needs

Education Requirements:
Master’s degree (in nursing, MBA or healthcare related) required.If Master's/Doctorate Degree is in related field other than nursing specialty, a Baccalaureate of Science or Arts Degree in Nursing
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
Certification in nursing administration or applicable clinical area from nationally recognized professional certification body.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in an administrative position in a large, complex health care organization.
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple disciplines to ensure effective health care operations.
Demonstrated experience assuring patient safety, quality of care, and compliance with the Joint Commission and state and federal agencies.
Experience developing a high performing clinical teams and flexible workforce.
Demonstrated experience establishing priorities and change management.
Experience modeling service excellence principles/standards.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to serve as a liaison and to collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, and other customers.
Progressive leadership experience in nursing services and/or health care administration.
Desired Qualifications:
Enterprise float pool development, implementation, growth and management.
Clinical nursing experience with inpatient nursing services.
Patient throughput/flow management.
Progressive leadership experience in a large academic medical center.
Experience working in a union environment.
Current knowledge of University policies and procedures.
