Sustainability Consultant

We are looking for Sustainability Strategy Consultant for our Sustainability Services team.

Context  

Becoming more sustainable is one of the biggest challenges facing corporates today – and the built environment accounts for approximately 40% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Everyone’s now asking how can we decarbonise our real estate, preferably in the most efficient and effective way. It’s where JLL’s sustainability experts can make a tangible difference, advising companies on how to invest in and implement measures that deliver a potent combination of financial, environmental, and social returns. The built environment is generating nearly 40% of the total global carbon footprint. With global warming and urbanization this trend can only increase unless we decide to combat it. Many corporations have made pledges to reduce to NZC but the road to deliver on these promises still needs to be defined and implemented. JLL manages more than 500 million square meters of real estate on behalf of its clients so we believe that we have role to play to drive the sustainability agenda to shape a better world.  

Our Sustainability Ambition 

At JLL, sustainability is more than a saying. As a business we’ve made our own commitment to reduce scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions down to zero by 2040 (see our Global Sustainability report). To achieve this ambitious goal, we will need to engage with our clients - almost 97% of our emissions are generated by the buildings we manage in their portfolios. With this commitment we must deploy best in class sustainability practices with all of our clients across the 500 million billion square meters that we manage globally, whether investors or occupiers, from strategy to transforming assets, project management down to managing assets.

About the Job

At JLL, we are driving sustainability through everything that we do. We are building up our Sustainability practice, to drive our end-to-end sustainability solutions in real estate, including: Client Solutions, Strategy Consulting, Performance & Design, and Operations.

This role is embedded in the Strategy Consulting team, where you will work with our clientsto help them think through their sustainability strategies, including what reporting they require and what certification they need. You will deliver consulting services, provide advice and will be accountable for delivering income for our business. Work in this career pathway typically does not require an engineering degree as you will be involved in providing non-engineering related sustainability consulting. The role requires a passion for sustainability and gives professional the opportunity to develop their careers as engineering & energy consultants.

What this job involves

• Build strong working relationships with client teams through the provision of accurate and timely advice and deliverables.

• Participate in business development activities to grow client consulting services, support cross-sell of JLL services and contribute to achieving challenging but realistic business growth targets.

• Support the development of client strategy implementation journeysand bring the strategy to life through engagement.

• Provide recommendations and action plans to bring sustainability management plans to life through engagement with the client’s internal teams, their property managers and contractors.

• Manage the delivery of a range of client tasks, ensure a professional relationship and the effective delivery of sustainability reporting services.

• Carry out research and analysis and create briefing notes on a range of non-technical subjects, sustainability topics, for example, environmental legislation and sustainability supply chain impacts.

• Provide support to clients in developing processes, targets, guidelines and progress actions through scheduling and leading regular progress meetings to track and promote project progress and liaison

• Participate in process and service line enhancement and development activities to embrace best practice, client demand and support upskilling of internal and external teams.

• Provide support to colleagues in the development, shaping and enhancement of service offering for clients

Technical Skills:

The job requires a basic level of understanding of some but not all of the following areas,

Climate Risk strategy

• Develops climate risk strategies suitable for application to varied client situations and circumstances.

Climate science

• Understands climate science, and the impact of personal, commercial and property on global warming and sustainability.

GHG Emissions

• Familiar with Greenhouse gas emissions baselining.

Sustainability Regulations / Frameworks

• Understands local, regional and global regulations (environmental or social) that affect the built environment

External Reporting

• Understands external reporting structures covering sustainability. Understanding of the protocols governing external reporting, reporting frameworks and knows how to collect and organize the data for external reporting.

Sustainability KPI's

• Identifies, benchmarks and sets kpi's suitable for application to different sustainability activities

Commercial & Business Driven Sustainability

• Understands commercial and business drivers resulting in organisations wanting to and needing to monitor their impact on society, climate net zero carbon and the drive to demonstrate improvement.

Sustainable Finance

• Understands sustainability financials including IRR, NOI, payback, asset value

Sustainability by Asset Class

• Understands sustainability impact by asset class - Retail, Residential, Industrial, Office, Hotel

Benchmarking Applications

• Aware of available benchmarking application tools that are readily available inside and outside of JLL.

Technology Solutions Basics

• Requires a general level of understanding, knowledge and skills relating to issues and priorities for Technology Solutions in sustainability.

Building Systems Knowledge

• Understanding the physical behaviour of a building as a system and how this impacts energy efficiency, durability, comfort and indoor air quality and how this impacts innovating high-performance buildings.

Business Development / Sales

• Emanates and/or facilitates revenue on behalf of the business through market, product or client development. Employee maintains accurate sales pipeline

Performance Management

• Manages the performance and/or development of others.
