As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization, the GMNS Product team is at the center of American Express’ global acquiring strategy. The American Express Network enables over $1.7T in annual spend across more than 170 markets, and we are driving a multi-year transformation to modernize our acquiring capabilities and deliver innovative products and services for merchants and partners globally.
Within this transformation, Payment Designation and global acquiring models are a strategic priority, enabling partnerships with leading platforms such as Stripe and Adyen while preserving the unique value of the American Express network.
This is a dedicated Product Operations role supporting the strategic transition of Issues, Operational Risk Events (OREs), and audit management across Payment Designation and global acquiring. Working closely with and often reporting to a Manager, Product Operations, the Associate helps strengthen governance and accountability for operational risk activities, allowing product teams to remain focused on delivery and client enablement. This role is ideal for an early-career, detail-oriented individual who is highly motivated, organized, and eager to learn in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities
Support the management of Operational Risk Events (OREs) and Issues by maintaining documentation, tracking corrective actions, and updating status against timelines
Assist with impact assessments and data gathering to support root cause analysis across Product, Technology, Risk, and Compliance
Help prepare materials and documentation for engagements with Control Management, Risk, Audit, and Compliance, including audit findings, exams, and RCSA
Support production incident management by capturing documentation and following up on action items
Perform quality checks on ORE and Issue documentation to ensure consistency and completeness
Compile ORE and Issue reporting, build and refresh dashboards, and help surface trends and potential control gaps
Maintain governance trackers, logs, and records that keep operational risk performance transparent to leadership
Identify opportunities to streamline documentation and reporting workflows and reduce manual effort
Contribute to product operations documentation and the upkeep of operating practices
Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in operations, risk, governance, payments, or related roles; internship experience considered
Exposure to governance concepts or operational risk frameworks (OREs, Issues, RCSA) a plus; willingness to learn tools such as Archer
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and data entry
Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to follow structured processes
High ownership mindset with a proactive, execution-focused approach
Comfortable working in cross-functional, fast-paced environments
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of AI tools and workflows to improve productivity is a plus
