Job Description

Barrett, The Honors College, is seeking an Associate Dean for Barrett on the ASU Downtown campus. The Associate Dean provides strategic leadership for the Downtown Barrett campus and is responsible for delivering a high-impact, high-value, and innovative honors experience for Downtown Barrett students in coordination with the Dean. The Associate Dean is also a key member of the Barrett leadership team, collaborating with the deans to shape and advance college-level initiatives and priorities as well as enhancing the framework for Barrett in multiple locations.

We welcome applications from faculty currently serving at Arizona State University in an Honors Faculty Fellow position with the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or Teaching Professor. This role includes 0.5 FTE in administrative responsibilities, and the selected candidate is expected to maintain a 0.5 FTE faculty workload.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership and support for the Barrett staff, faculty, and students at the Downtown campus, including direct supervision of at least one staff position; follow college-wide initiatives, processes, and practices to ensure a consistent high-quality Barrett experience across campuses.
  • Assess honors student enrollment, retention, and success at the campus as well as the impact of the Barrett Downtown experience, and implement changes based on those assessments.
  • Continue to articulate the identity of and priorities for Barrett Downtown, reflecting the specific needs and characteristics of that community while also aligning with the college mission and values.
  • Oversee annual budget in line with strategic priorities of the college and the Barrett Downtown community.
  • Coordinate with ASU and Barrett recruitment and admissions teams to continue to grow the Barrett Downtown community.
  • Collaborate with Downtown colleges, leadership, and faculty to develop and refine course offerings, programs, support, and opportunities for Barrett Downtown students.
  • Collaborate with external partners (businesses, state and local government, other institutions, etc.) to develop and continue professional development opportunities for Barrett Downtown students.
  • Communicate with current and prospective students and their families about the Barrett Downtown experience.
  • Work closely with the deans, faculty chair, and senior staff leaders; actively participate in the Barrett leadership team; and represent the college on committees and at events.

Working Environment

The Associate Dean works in a dynamic higher education environment that includes office, classroom, and campus-wide settings. The position requires regular interaction with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Duties are performed in both individual and group settings, including meetings, presentations, and campus events.

The Associate Dean must spend a minimum of 50% of their assigned work time physically present on the Downtown campus performing administrative, supervisory, and student-facing responsibilities. The role may also require presence at other locations as needed to support institutional initiatives and operations.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with extended periods of sitting, computer use, and participation in meetings. The position may require occasional evening and weekend work to support campus events, meetings, and special projects. Travel between campuses or to community sites may be required.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Terminal degree in field of specialty and qualifications commensurate with a career-track associate teaching or teaching professor position
  • Outstanding skills in communication and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing the values of the ASU Charter
  • Must be a current Honors Faculty Fellow within Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University

Desired qualifications:

  • Higher education leadership experience
  • Understanding of the Downtown campus and/or its academic disciplines
