Reports To: General Counsel

Pay Range: $75,000- $90,000 Per Year. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire and will be dependent on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure when applicable.

We are seeking an experienced, organized, and highly motivated professional to join our Legal Department as an Associate Counsel, handling Authority In Box ("AIB") and Claims Oversight. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting a growing insurance organization.

This role combines corporate legal support with insurance claims oversight, litigation management, AIB administration, and legal operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Counsel, Claims Department, executives, third-party administrators, outside defense counsel, and business leaders to ensure legal matters, claims activities, regulatory obligations, and corporate governance responsibilities are managed efficiently and professionally.

The position offers significant variety and exposure to insurance operations, litigation management, corporate governance, compliance, contract administration, regulatory matters, and enterprise legal operations. Candidates with prior insurance claims experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience working in an insurance company, third-party administrator (TPA), law firm, or corporate legal department is highly desirable. This position performs legal support functions under the supervision of the General Counsel and does not provide legal advice or engage in the practice of law.

What you’ll do as an Associate Counsel:

Claims Oversight & Litigation Management

• Assist the General Counsel with oversight of litigated and non-litigated insurance claims.
• Monitor claims handled by third-party administrators for compliance with company guidelines and service standards.
• Review significant claim developments and assist with reporting to executive management.
• Review and audit legal defense counsel invoices for compliance with litigation management guidelines, billing standards, and outside counsel agreements.
• Assist with subpoena responses and document production.
• Maintain litigation calendars, deadlines, and legal matter management systems.

Authority In a Box (AIB) Administration

• Support implementation and ongoing administration of the Company's Authority In a Box (AIB) programs.
• Maintain AIB operational procedures, documentation, and compliance records.
• Coordinate communications among underwriting, claims, legal, compliance, and outside vendors.
• Assist with internal audits and regulatory examinations involving AIB operations.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and compliance processes.

Experience and Qualifications

What we look for in our Associate Counsel:

• Admission to State Bar, Associate degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an insurance company, law firm, corporate legal department, claims department, or third-party administrator.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with exceptional attention to detail.
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior insurance claims handling, claims oversight, or litigation support experience.
• Experience working with TPAs, MGAs, delegated authority programs, or program business.
• Knowledge of legal invoice review, litigation billing, and defense counsel management.
• Familiarity with California insurance regulations and corporate governance practices.
• Experience using legal billing, document management, or litigation management systems.
