Job Description

The Associate - Corporate, Specialty and Government Banking RM is responsible for supporting Senior Corporate Banking Relationship Managers in the building and servicing of a sound and profitable portfolio of commercial business relationships, satisfying and exceeding customer needs and expectations, and meeting credit and regulatory requirements, through the origination and structuring of Commercial loans. The role also serves as a developmental position for future assignment as an Associate Director - Relationship Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Corporate Banking Relationship Managers with their marketing efforts by researching clients and prospects.
  • Create proposals and pitch materials for assigned Corporate Banking team(s). Develop and maintain financial models for a standard set of pitch templates. Interact with OCR partners in the development of team call pitch materials. Create and organize content and analysis, collaborate with capital markets and other product and service partners. Participate in Pre-Call Planning, including development of agendas.
  • Join Senior Corporate Banking Relationship Managers on client and prospect calls (some travel required), take detailed notes, and enter call reports into the corporate CRM system.
  • Assist in the monitoring and execution of pipeline of referrals and opportunities for loans, deposits and fee-generating products and services, update the corporate CRM system to maintain pipeline accuracy.
  • Participate, as needed, in the underwriting of loan requests for new and existing customers.
  • Assist Senior Relationship Managers by performing BSA/AML/KYC on-boarding for deposit and loan closings.
  • Create annual account plans and update activity throughout the year. Monitor and update OCR cross-sell plans and achievement of Capital Allocation Committee commitments including achievement of targeted ROE. Help to identify cross-sell opportunities within the existing portfolio.
  • Inform management and Relationship Managers on all key factors of prospect and client relationships, the portfolio overall and the competitive environment.
  • Develop knowledge of all corporate banking products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Formal credit training (at Huntington or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2+ years of commercial banking experience, preferably in a CSG Credit Products Analyst/Associate role or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in credit fundamentals to determine the appropriate risks on new and prospective customers so that all relationships are in strategic alignment with Bank risk appetite and return parameters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn additional systems/software.
  • FINRA Series 79 (Investment Banking) and Series 63 (All States) licenses or must take and pass the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 79 and Series 63 exams within required time frame.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, CFA or similar advanced degree.
  • Strong credit skills, credit background and knowledge. Ability to analyze corporate financial statements and make recommendations on credit structure.
  • Sound understanding of the Corporate Banking business and its related products, and pertinent regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong planning, negotiation, organizational and analytical skills. High level of attention to detail.
  • A high level of interpersonal and sales skills are necessary to compete effectively, present proposals to client, and recommend loan transactions to bank senior management.
  • Legal/Loan documentation experience.
