
Nishimura & Asahi is a leading Japanese law firm, with a growing London office, that advises Japanese and international clients on complex cross‑border matters. Our London office opened in February 2025 and currently is comprised of six lawyers qualified to practise in Japan and England. As part of our ongoing expansion, we are seeking a mid‑level associate to join our corporate practice in the London office.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely within a small, collaborative, senior‑led team, advising on high‑quality cross‑border transactions with a strong focus on Japan.
The Role
You will be involved in a broad range of corporate matters, with a particular focus on cross‑border M&A and joint ventures. The role primarily involves advising Japanese clients investing in the UK and Europe, as well as assisting European clients making investments in Japan. The position offers early responsibility, direct client exposure, and the opportunity to increase your English law expertise with a London‑based practice that has a genuinely international outlook.
Candidate Qualifications
Essential
Qualification: Solicitor, qualified to practice in England & Wales
Experience: 2–5 years’ PQE in corporate law, particularly M&A, joint ventures, and cross‑border transactions
Flexibility to support a broad range of international transactions, including willingness to start work early when required to accommodate Japan time
Strong attention to detail when drafting and reviewing complex agreements
Willingness and ability to support business development activities
Comfortable working in a bilingual environment and collaborating closely with colleagues in Tokyo
Desirable
Business‑level Japanese
Work experience in Japan
