Associate Corporate Finance Mid-Market

ING is looking for an Associate for the Corporate Finance Mid-Market (CFMM) department, part of ING Business Banking NL. CFMM is the team that provides corporate finance (M&A) advice to ING’s customers for transactions worth between €15 and €200 million. The CFMM team consists of 15 people concentrating purely on M&A advice on purchase and sales transactions in the mid-market segment with a specific focus on director/majority shareholders.

Role and responsibilities

You will have operational responsibility for deals in progress, right through from pitch to closing, working with (associate) directors and supported by analysts. You will carry out analyses (market, sector, customer), draw up information memoranda, perform valuation analyses, conduct database research on potential buying or selling candidates, guide the customer through the buying or selling process, and see to the correct processing of all transaction-related documents.

You will also contribute to the development of the department by sharing and managing knowledge about product and market developments. As an associate, you are expected to work very quickly, efficiently and accurately in complex transactions, to be proactive, independent and eager to learn, and to communicate smoothly with customers and prospects. Within a short time (2-3 years), you will be able to acquire, execute and complete your own deals.

The team

CFMM is part of Lending & Event Finance (‘LEF’) at ING Business Banking NL. This department provides event-driven advice and financing from ING’s Acanthus office in Amsterdam. CFMM also works closely together within ING’s global Corporate Finance network. You will work together intensively in deal teams of highly qualified colleagues with plenty of space for your own initiative and you will have direct customer contact. ING has been the leading M&A adviser in the Benelux for many years.

You are a proactive, energetic and ambitious professional with a strong affinity for financial services, the mid-market segment and M&A. You also identify with the following profile:

• 2-5 years of demonstrable and relevant work experience in fields such as corporate finance, leveraged finance, acquisition finance or private equity;
• a university degree with above-average grades, preferably in economics or finance, supplemented by relevant extracurricular activities;
• analytical skills, familiarity with balance sheets, results, cash flows and valuation techniques;
• strong drive to make deals, present pitches and generate leads independently;
• affinity with entrepreneurs and family firms in the Dutch mid-market;
• highly proficient in PowerPoint and Excel;
• an excellent command of spoken and written Dutch and English;
• team player, communicative, eager to learn, stress-resistant, entrepreneurial and hands-on.
