Who We Are Looking For
Crisis24’s Crisis Security Consulting (CSC) team is seeking an Associate Consultant to join our expanding Middle East & Africa practice, based in South Africa. The successful candidate will support a range of projects across the region, contributing to client deliverables spanning threat assessments, crisis response, and security consulting. The ideal candidate will have:
The position requires a postgraduate qualification (Master’s or Honors level) in a relevant field, or equivalent experience, along with 2–3 years of relevant work experience, and a strong interest in geopolitical and security issues across the Middle East & Africa. A willingness to travel, including to higher threat environments, and adapt to bespoke, international projects is essential.
Location and Travel Requirements
• Place of Work: Cape Town, South Africa. Please note that this opportunity is open only to candidates currently residing in Cape Town
• Travel Expectations: This role requires some international travel in support of consulting projects. Flexibility and readiness to deploy at short notice – both domestically and overseas to higher threat environments – are essential
What You Will Work On
You will contribute to a variety of projects and deliverables within the Crisis Security Consulting department. This includes:
• Conducting bespoke threat assessments and other client deliverables – primarily across the Middle East & Africa, but also more broadly to include Asia Pacific and Europe
• Supporting CSC consultants with client-facing projects and deliverables, including preparing presentations, training materials, bespoke research, and other supporting functions as required
• Supporting CSC consultants with the delivery of projects ranging from security risk management, crisis management, business continuity, and other bespoke consultancy projects
• Supporting client operations and on-the-ground deployments, including in challenging environments
• Analyzing and presenting to clients in concise and actionable formats
• Assisting in cyber and physical threat assessments, including the intersection of cyber and geopolitical risks
• Participating in an on-call rotation to provide timely response support when required

You will collaborate with colleagues across the Crisis24 global network - including teams in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East & Africa, and Asia Pacific — as well as with partners within the GardaWorld group. Cross-functional teamwork with our Special Risks, All Hazards, and Product Risk units will be a key part of your role.
What You Will Bring
• Master’s level qualification in International Relations, Security Studies, War Studies, or a related field
• 2–3 years of relevant professional experience (consulting, risk management, intelligence, or security-related work)
• Native proficiency in English, written and spoken (a second language such as French is highly desirable)
• Demonstrated interest or experience in cyber security, including awareness of cyber threat actors and digital risk trends
• An understanding of security and risk management principles based on best practice standards
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
• A flexible and adaptable approach, including willingness to travel within the region, occasionally to higher-risk environments
• Integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive information
• Strong IT literacy, including use of Microsoft applications and OSINT tools
• Eligibility to reside and work in South Africa
Preferred
• Experience working or traveling across Africa, particularly in complex or high-risk environments
• Familiarity with OSINT monitoring platforms and digital threat intelligence tools
• Awareness of malware/ransomware trends, or experience contributing to cyber threat assessments
• Understanding of cross-domain security challenges - physical, informational, and digital
