Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director and Supervising Clinician, the Associate Clinician for Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health is responsible for attending to patients in crisis and in need of interventions for a variety of issues, including but not limited to pscyhosis, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, homelessness, pain management, and chronic medical conditions for which the patient would benefit from emotional support, coaching, and behavior changes.

Required Qualifications
- Registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an ASW or AMFT is required.
- Experience working with patients in crisis and demonstrated understanding of how to support individuals using a person-centerd approach preferred.
- Understanding of and willingness to practice from a harm-reductionist approach, while supporting individuals autonomy and agency.
- Experience in a variety of assessments, treatment planning and counseling issues including chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, and traumatic experience preferred.
- Experience with brief interventions, including Motivational Interviewing and particularly the Stages of Change, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) preferred.
- Ability to meet program requirements for billable service units and complete documentation expectations within 24-hours.
- Ability and willingness to utilize clinical supervision for professional development.
- Knowledge and skill in working with diverse populations.

- Ability to abide by standards of professional ethics.
- Compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations regarding the position, including HIPAA, sexual harassment, Mandated Reporting, Scope of Practice, OSHA, etc. Proficient in using technology, including the electronic health records system, Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, and other required computer applications and charting systems.
- Ability to understand and promote the mission, vision, and values of WellSpace Health both in the work place and in the community.
- Successful completion of all required organizational and CRISIS program training.
- Computer literacy, including word processing and e-mail.
- Bi-lingual ability a plus.
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
- Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the Supervising Clinician, provide consultations, coaching, and brief solution-focused interventions for crisis intervention and to support behavior change.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with patients experiencing homelessness and co-occurring disorders such as mental health, chronic medical conditions, and substance use disorders at a high acuity care facility requiring 24/7 patient support and monitoring.
- Work with a varying of roster of patients, some who receive services at CRBH once and others who use the program regularly.
- Perform intake and risk assessments, manage crisis situations, and evaluate patients for higher levels of care, as indicated.
- Track, initiate, and complete Behavioral Health Home comprehensive assessments for patients visiting the CRBH multiple times per month.
- Have strong role in CRBH weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting to case conference around patients who need additional support in planning for successful reacclimation into the community
- Recognize and treat behavioral issues related to chronic health condition management (mental health, substance use disorder, Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, etc.) as they arise in the context of crisis intervention.
- Consult with care team members to enhance communication skills, support a trauma-informed approach, and enhance cultural sensitivity and effectiveness in managing behavioral components of health conditions.
- Provide patients with self-management skills (e.g. relapse prevention) and tools to enhance their participation in their own treatment and recovery. Collect, develop, and distribute health and mental health improvement tools on an ongoing basis.
- May provide case management services to support referrals to additional resources or a more appropriate level of care.
- Liase with external stakeholders and other organizations, and maintain ongoing relationships for intergration in the community.
- Attend clinical supervision and submit charts for review as directed.
- Using best practices, teach patients skills to manage chronic conditions.
- Provide Motivational Interviewing, and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to improve abstinence and harm reduction outcomes for people with substance use disorders.
- Provide patients with support, instruction, and modeling for behavior befitting the Health Center setting and most likely to encourage mutually respectful care.
- Identify high-risk, high-needs patients for greater attention to whole-person care and health improvement planning and refer them to appropriate services.
- Give timely feedback to the care team regarding care plans, treatment recommendations, and progress. Attend and support regular collaborative team meetings to discuss both patient issues and team collaboration issues.
- Provide individual/group therapy as appropriate to support the patients.
- Document all patient interactions in the Electronic Health Record according to WellSpace Health policies and timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA requirements for all patient communications.
- Make connections to residential treatment, withdrawal management, and specialty mental health and other specialty services within WellSpace Health or externally, as appropriate.
- Comply with all Mandated Reporter requirements and documentation.
- Assist patients with tasks associated with community functioning and may help patients fill out paperwork and/or provide resources as necessary for social needs and community supports
- Assist with related data collection. Assist with related projects and initiatives. Assist with Utilization Review activities.
- The Clinician (Associate) contributes equally to the patient care teams through huddles, case consultation, patient advocacy, mental health support and education, and collaborative team meetings at CRBH, WellSpace Health, and with community partners. The Clinician (Associate) attends clinical supervision regularly in compliance with BBS requirements.
- Willingness to work non-traditional schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Travel as assigned to other sites for meetings, consultations, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
