Job Description

Summary:

The Associate, Baseball Operations will support a broad range of functions across the Baseball Operations department, with responsibilities spanning both day-to-day operations and analytical projects. This is a great early-career role for someone interested in gaining exposure to the MLB Rules & Regulations, the CBA, player contracts, roster management decisions, salary arbitration player markets, and financial operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about baseball, organized and detail-oriented, comfortable managing operational and financial processes, and eager to develop across a broad range of Baseball Operations functions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of Major League transactions, including managing transaction checklists, preparing required documentation, maintaining trackers and ensuring timely completion of outstanding items
  • Support ongoing player and coach operational processes, including documentation, onboarding, visas, allowances and related communications
  • Maintain accurate tracking of transactions, Major League service, option days, payroll and other information critical to roster management
  • Support annual and quarterly budget planning, invoice and expense review, financial reconciliation and other Baseball Operations financial processes
  • Provide analytical support across salary arbitration, player contracts and extensions, player markets, and other player personnel projects
  • Develop proficiency with the Major League Rules & Regulations and Major League CBA and support rules and transaction-related research
  • Support Spring Training planning, roster and depth-chart materials, important date calendars and other recurring Baseball Operations processes
  • Support department-wide initiatives and special projects throughout the baseball calendar
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and document recurring Baseball Operations workflows
  • Take on increasing ownership of analytical and operational projects based on departmental needs and demonstrated ability

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience; experience in Baseball Operations, Finance/Accounting, analytics, or another operational role preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in baseball and desire to develop a career in Baseball Operations
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple processes and deadlines
  • Extremely detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with quantitative and financial information
  • Self-starter who can take initiative, learn quickly and operate with increasing independence
  • Strong communicator and collaborator who is comfortable working across different functions and stakeholders
