Location: Boston, MA – Hybrid Work Schedule

Experience Level: 3-5+ years of professional liability defense or related litigation experience preferred

Description: Harris Beach Murtha seeks a mid-level associate to join its Professional Liability Practice Group. The Associate will represent lawyers, architects and engineers, accountants, insurance brokers, other non-medical professionals, and recreational facilities in professional liability defense, disciplinary, and related litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have professional liability insurance defense experience, strong legal research and writing skills, and experience handling discovery, depositions, court hearings, dispositive motions, mediations, and trial preparation. Candidates with other relevant litigation experience and strong writing samples* are also encouraged to apply, as the group is willing to provide training.

The Professional Liability Associate will have the opportunity to:

  • Represent lawyers, architects and engineers, accountants, insurance brokers, other non-medical professionals, and recreational facilities in professional liability defense, disciplinary, and related litigation matters
  • Assist with the evaluation, investigation, and resolution of professional liability claims and disputes
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery documents
  • Participate in all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, court hearings, dispositive motions, mediations, settlement discussions, and trial preparation
  • Work closely with partners on hearings, mediations, and trials, with increasing responsibility based on experience
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other professionals regarding case strategy and developments
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas to deliver exceptional client service

Work Environment and Expectations:

  • A hybrid work opportunity in Harris Beach Murtha’s Boston office
  • Minimum annual billable requirement of 1900 hours

Applications are encouraged and desired if you have:

  • 3-5+ years of litigation experience, preferably involving professional liability insurance defense
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the Massachusetts Bar preferred
  • Admission in Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire and/or Rhode Island, or eligibility for admission into one or more of those jurisdictions, is a plus
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and objective decision-making
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client-service skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • A high level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail
  • A positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities across all levels of the organization
  • Military experience welcome

Salary information below will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position and geographic location.

$130,000 – 185,000
