Cowen Rodriguez Peacock is a San Antonio-based personal injury law firm focused on high-value, complex litigation, including catastrophic injury and trucking matters. Known as “The Trucking Trial Lawyers”, the firm combines disciplined, aggressive advocacy with a collaborative approach and a strong commitment to developing its attorneys. We recognize that every case represents a person who has entrusted us with their future, and we are committed to maximizing value and achieving meaningful results for our clients.

The Associate Attorney will work directly with the Managing Attorney for Litigation on a high-value docket of catastrophic injury cases, taking meaningful responsibility for substantial portions of active matters while receiving hands-on guidance and mentorship. The Managing Attorney retains overall case strategy and leadership, making this an opportunity to develop greater litigation responsibility and autonomy over time. This is not a role where you will be managing your own case load.

What you’ll do:

  • Litigation Support: Work directly with the Managing Attorney on active, high-value cases involving catastrophic injuries.
  • Discovery Management: Review incoming discovery, respond to requests, and identify deficiencies in materials received from opposing counsel.
  • Deposition Handling: Independently take smaller depositions and defend clients, engaging in preparation activities for larger depositions.
  • Hearings Participation: Appear at and handle various hearings independently, while developing strong briefing skills.
  • Client Communication: Communicate directly with clients regarding case-related issues, answer questions, manage concerns, and progressively develop the ability to discuss case value and navigate difficult client conversations.
  • Courtroom Exposure: Play an active role in trial proceedings, including examining witnesses and participating before a jury.
  • Travel: Travel as needed for hearings, depositions, trials, and other case-related matters throughout Texas and, at times, out of state.

What we’re looking for:

  • Licensed Attorney: Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Litigation Experience: Personal injury or tort litigation experience is required. Attorneys with approximately 3–5 years of relevant insurance defense experience who are interested in transitioning to plaintiff-side personal injury are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Discovery and Deposition Skills: Proficiency in managing discovery and taking/defending depositions independently.
  • Strong Writing Abilities: Excellent legal writing and briefing skills are essential.
  • Legal Writing Sample: A legal writing sample demonstrating strong legal analysis, organization, reasoning, and briefing ability will be required during the interview process.
  • Collaboration & Coachability: Highly organized, procedure-oriented, collaborative, and receptive to feedback. You should bring confidence to your work while being comfortable asking questions, learning from others, and embracing the Firm's established litigation methodology and processes.
  • Work Location: This is a full-time, in-office position in San Antonio, Texas. Remote work is not available. Candidates outside San Antonio must be willing to relocate.

Why you should work here:

  • Direct Mentorship: Work closely with and receive hands-on mentorship from experienced attorneys who are recognized leaders in trucking personal injury litigation.
  • Meaningful Case Work: Engage in high-value, catastrophic injury cases with significant impact and complexity.
  • Comprehensive Training: Participate in dedicated weekly attorney training, practical courtroom skills development, case evaluations, paid CLE opportunities, and Firm-supported professional development.
  • Active Trial Involvement: Participate actively in trials, gaining valuable courtroom experience rather than merely observing.
  • Career Development: Build toward greater case autonomy and the potential opportunity to progress into a Docket Attorney role based on performance, development, business needs, and available opportunities.

Additional perks:

  • Competitive Compensation
  • Relocation Assistance
  • Professional Development

If you are looking to take on meaningful responsibility in high-value litigation while developing your skills through hands-on mentorship, training, and active courtroom experience, we invite you to apply for the Associate Attorney position at Cowen Rodriguez Peacock. Join a collaborative team committed to achieving meaningful results for its clients while helping attorneys develop greater responsibility and autonomy over time.
