Job Description

You’re a future-focused leader who embraces and helps others adapt to change.

You're passionate about public service and ready to lead a team of professionals, share your expertise and guide decision-making to help shape the future of our State.

In this role, you'll:

Report to the Deputy Executive Director Engineering & System Integrity within the Engineering & Maintenance division at Sydney Trains. You will be responsible for leading the management and implementation of Sydney Trains’ network electrical standards and compliance framework in line with regulatory obligations, ensuring the organisation maintains its status as an accredited Electrical System Operator.

You will provide strategic and technical leadership across the Electrical Distribution Business Unit. You will oversee the development, review and implementation of electrical safety standards and procedures, ensuring all technical personnel hold and maintain the required accreditations.

This role offers a rare opportunity to influence the safety, reliability and performance of a complex, high voltage electrical network that underpins one of Australia’s most critical pieces of public infrastructure.

Acting as Sydney Trains’ key representative, you will lead engagement with external utilities and represent the organisation in industry coordination forums, ensuring alignment, compliance and strong stakeholder relationships.

This is a permanent opportunity.

About you

You’re a visible, trusted leader with a strong track record in high-risk, high-reliability, complex operational environments. While experience in the transport sector is desirable, candidates from energy, utilities, major infrastructure, mining, defence or heavy industry environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

You will also hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience) and bring solid knowledge of applicable standards, codes of practice, legislation and regulatory frameworks.

You hold clear accountability for the safe, reliable and efficient availability of the network, with experience meeting safety responsibilities under the Sydney Trains Safety Management System or a comparable framework. You also bring demonstrated experience in the design, construction or maintenance of infrastructure and related assets within complex technical environments, alongside a strong delivery and customer focus.
