
The Department of Psychology at Yale University invites applications for an open rank Professor (assistant professor, associate professor with tenure, or full professor) in the area of Social Psychology, beginning July 1, 2026. This position is open to all sub-areas in Social Psychology including, but not limited to, attitudes and social cognition, decision-making, intergroup relations and group processes, interpersonal & close relationships, emotion, motivation, the self & identity, etc. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a service course (a broader psychology course) and a smaller seminar (often on the topic of their choosing). This position is especially suited for a scholar with interests that afford collaboration with faculty in the other areas of our department (cognitive, developmental, clinical, and neuroscience), and/or with scholars in other schools and disciplines at Yale, such as the School of Public Health, School of Medicine, Jackson School, Law School, and African American Studies. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of conducting rigorous, innovative, and impactful research, a commitment to teaching and mentoring at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and a desire to work in a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative environment.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (2 parts, see below), teaching statement, and up to three selected publications (published or unpublished). Recent PhDs and untenured candidates should also arrange for three letters of recommendation.
Research statements: The research statement should consist of two parts (uploaded as two separate documents). One part is the “past research statement” (1000 words max). This should summarize the applicant’s main research activities to date. The second part is the “future research statement” (500 words max). This should summarize the applicant’s plans for research activities over the next 5 years (i.e., What questions does the applicant want to tackle? What experimental approach(es) will the applicant use to address the research questions?).
Teaching statement: The teaching statement (1000 words max) should include a summary of the applicant’s teaching style in (formal courses) and out (mentoring, supervision) of the classroom. The applicant should mention the types of courses they would be excited to teach.
Letters of recommendation: Recent PhDs and untenured candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent on your behalf. Currently tenured candidates may skip this.

Professional Conduct Review for New Faculty Hires
The final candidate, upon acceptance of a contingent offer of employment/faculty appointment, may be required to disclose whether they are, or have been, the subject of any disciplinary proceeding (investigation, hearing, etc.) at previous institutions or employers, and may also be subject to a background screening.
