The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School seek applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Advanced Modeling of Power and Energy Systems. The Polytechnic School (https://poly.engineering.asu.edu/), one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant fundamental and applied engineering research community (learn more at https://research.engineering.asu.edu/). We seek applicants who can enhance our abilities in these areas as part of a community of experts. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to, modeling and analysis of modern power and energy systems, including national generation planning; transmission and distribution systems; grid, facility, and residential energy optimization; demand forecasting and response; integration of distributed and clean energy resources; device-level modeling of generation, storage, and energy-use systems; and the energy demands of emerging technologies.
We search for applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the university to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses, advise both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects, and undertake service activities.
The Polytechnic School supports a research community focusing on energy materials and devices (e.g. batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen (H2) technologies), solar photovoltaic systems, smart grids, power electronics, and advanced mobility (e.g. multi-vehicle systems, electric vehicles, connected and automated vehicles, vehicle dynamics and control, and shared mobility). Much of this research is conducted in ASU’s newest facility, a more than 176,000 sq. ft. building opened in Fall 2025, promoting the future of clean energy and manufacturing. The Polytechnic campus is also home to faculty research in human-technology systems and engineering education, and has strong and growing ties to aerospace, defense, semiconductor, energy, and other industry sectors that are well represented in the region, one of the most economically robust in the nation (learn more at https://campus.asu.edu/polytechnic-campus).
Appointment will be at the Assistant/Associate/(full) Professor rank, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2027.
