FACULTY POSITION
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks candidates for a full-time faculty position. Applications are welcome for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in all areas of chemical and biomolecular engineering. Areas of particular interest include AI/ML, biomolecular engineering, chemical separations, clean energy and sustainability, and process systems engineering. Faculty members are expected to initiate and sustain a vigorous research program, teach undergraduate and graduate students, and support the administrative and governance functions of the department, the university, and the profession through service on committees, as appropriate.

Qualifications
An earned Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, applied math, biotechnology, chemical technology, or a related field with a distinguished academic record is required. Applicants at the assistant professor level must have a promising research agenda and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level must demonstrate a record of research, teaching, and service indicative of an Associate or Full Professor.
Appointment Information
The target starting date is August 16, 2027, but is flexible based on the candidate’s needs. The budgeted salary range for the position is $115,000 to $135,000 at the Assistant Professor level, $135,000 to $160,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $160,000 to $220,000 at the Full Professor level, for a 9-month service basis (paid over 12 months). The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.It is not typical for a beginning Assistant Professor to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for the position. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization.
