Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences

The Department of Genetics of Genome Sciences within the CaseWesternReserveUniversity School of Medicine isseekingaqualifiedcandidateto fill a faculty position at the rank ofAssistant, Associate or Full Professor in Chemical Biology. This is a tenure-track position; the majority of the time will be spent on research, with additional teaching and service responsibilities. The Department is a highly interdisciplinary unit with 34 primary faculty members who influence the fields of human genetics and genomics, model systems (including invertebrate, mouse, and human induced pluripotent stem cells), translational genomics, cancer genetics/genomics, systems biology research, chemical biology and therapeutics, developmental genetics, and clinical genetics. The successful candidate’s lab space will be within the Integrated Science and Engineering Building (ISEB), a state-of-the-art research building opening October 2026. ISEB’s Life Science Therapeutics cluster, led by Prof. Drew Adams of the Department, pairs chemical synthesis and chemical biology facilities to accelerate the discovery of small-molecules with therapeutic potential. Beyond the ISEB, the Department maintains close ties with University Hospitals, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and the Seidman Cancer Center, providing unique opportunities for translational science. Advanced core facilities in high-throughput small-molecule screening, genomic sequencing, transcriptomics, pluripotent stem cell production, imaging, engineered mouse models, and bioinformatics significantly enhance research within the department.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Initiate or expand a thriving independent research program at the interface of chemistry and biology.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, professional staff, and undergraduates in conducting rigorous and impactful research.
  • Write grants to diverse funding sources to support the independent research program.
  • Maintain full compliance with all safety and administrative requirements.
  • Participate in the ongoing activities of the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences, Chemical Biology Program, and ISEB Life Science Therapeutics research cluster, including seminars, retreats, committees, and related service activities.
  • Participate in the educational mission of the School of Medicine by sharing lectures on chemical biology-related topics in team-taught graduate courses.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or MD,PhD training leading to significant contributions to chemical biology or novel therapeutics.
  • For Assistant professor candidates, postdoctoral training demonstrating additional significant accomplishments in chemical biology or novel therapeutics is required.
  • Associate or Full Professor candidates should have robust and active research programs and demonstrable national or international reputations, respectively.
  • Success in mentoring junior trainees, grant writing, and manuscript submission is preferred for Assistant Professor candidates and required for candidates at more senior levels.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

The annual starting base salary range for this position at the rank of assistant professor is from [$113,300 to $147,500], at the rank of associate professor is from [$141,734 to $195,222], and at the rank of professor is from [$150,000 to $300,000]. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
