INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGIST

The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, in partnership with Indiana University Health, invites applications for a fellowship-trained interventional radiologist to join our long-established IR practice at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. This is an opportunity to practice the full breadth of image-guided intervention—from straightforward biopsies and drainages to high-level vascular and interventional oncology work—in a community hospital setting, with the resources, colleagues, and academic support of one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. The position includes a clinical track appointment at an academic rank commensurate with experience.

The Practice

• Join a historically strong interventional radiology practice at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, the tertiary referral center for East Central Indiana, with a well-developed referral base and a reputation built over decades.
• Perform a broad case mix: image-guided biopsies, drainages, and venous access alongside peripheral arterial and venous intervention, dialysis access management, interventional oncology (embolization and ablation), hepatobiliary intervention, and trauma embolization.
• Diagnostic interpretation is part of the role on lighter procedural days, but there is no formal daily case or RVU quota
• Practice with the backing of one of the largest academic IR divisions in the Midwest, with 22 interventional radiologists across the IU Health system available for consultation, coverage, and complex-case referral.
• Autonomy of a community practice with academic infrastructure behind it: subspecialty second opinions, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and research support through the Medical Imaging Research Institute (MIRI) if desired, though research is entirely optional.

Compensation & Benefits

• Total compensation (salary + benefits + call) estimated at $670,000 and above for assistant professor and above, with ample opportunities for supplemental income.
• Sign-on bonus of up to $100,000 for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided interventional procedures at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, from routine biopsies and drainages to complex vascular and oncologic intervention.
• Contribute diagnostic interpretation during lighter procedural periods, without a fixed daily quota.
• Manage inpatient consultations and outpatient visits as a clinical subspecialist.
• Participate in the site call rotation.
• Collaborate with referring physicians and multidisciplinary teams to maintain and expand IR services in East Central Indiana.
• Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives aligned with the department’s four missions—clinical, research, education, and culture.

Basic Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• MD/DO with successful completion of an ACGME-accredited IR fellowship or Integrated/Independent IR residency program.
• Board certified or board eligible in Interventional Radiology (IR/DR) by the American Board of Radiology.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Indiana.
• Candidates with subspecialty expertise in interventional oncology, complex vascular intervention, or other procedural focus areas are especially encouraged to apply.
• Although not required, applicants with interest in clinical or translational research are welcome.
