Breaking Ground operates nearly 4,000 units of housing across New York City, along with housing in upstate New York and Connecticut. Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.

But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Reporting to the Vice President, Government Contract Compliance and Data Strategy, the Assistant Vice President, Software Engineering manages the software engineering team, providing software and engineering services across the organization. In partnership with senior leaders, they identify and develop the technical direction for the organization and manage the creation of internal software and seamless integrations with external software. The Assistant Vice President sets engineering standards and ensures the quality and reliability of products that are utilized to improve decision making and foster innovation, while driving collaboration and an effective impact across departments. They manage the partnership with the Data Operations and Strategy team to develop and maintain data and accessibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Team management:
• Successful oversight and performance management of the Assistant Director and Senior Software Engineer
• Responsible for implementing supervisory strategies, and systems of accountability to ensure that staff have adequate support, guidance, and oversight at all times
Software engineering and stewardship
• Primary point of contact for all software engineering needs
• Oversee the design and development of software solutions; contribute technically to software projects and guide software architectural decisions
• Ensure external software is utilized and maintained effectively
• Identify opportunities to expand use of external software solutions
• Partner with Assistant Vice President, Data Operations and Strategy and senior leaders to set the organization’s software direction and to identify areas of opportunity, and set priorities
• Manage data tools, workflows, and practices that ensure software is accessible and responsibly maintained across the organization
• Ensure Portal upgrades and features are in compliance with government and private grant contracts
• Supervise day-to-day design, implementation, and application of analytics methods and techniques
Data strategy:
• Drive the vision for how software supports data innovation, alignment, and ha a strategic impact across the organization
• Manage external data partnerships with research, academic, and other institutions
• Explore AI Initiatives and opportunities in partnership with IT
Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, Masters degree preferred
• Minimum 10 years of software development experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing a software engineering team
• Expert-level skills in SQL, C#, Javascript, Microsoft Azure Suite
