The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Clinical Applications is an executive leader responsible for driving innovation, setting the strategic direction, ensuring operational performance, and leading the continuous optimization of the Health System's clinical and revenue cycle application portfolio. This role provides enterprise leadership for the Epic electronic health record (EHR) platform and all supporting third-party applications across inpatient, ambulatory, procedural, ancillary, and revenue cycle domains, ensuring technology solutions enable high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, academic excellence, and financial performance. *** Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Health System Information Resources (HSIR), the AVP partners closely with Health System clinical and operational executives, including the CHIO, CNIO, and enterprise IT leadership, to align clinical informatics, workflow design, and application strategy with organizational priorities. The role serves as the executive sponsor for Epic and major clinical system initiatives and provides escalation and decision authority for the Clinical Applications portfolio within established governance frameworks, including shared governance for revenue cycle domains in collaboration with Revenue Cycle leadership. *** The AVP leads and develops a team of Directors responsible for Epic and third-party clinical applications, ensuring service excellence, system reliability, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and strategic innovation across a complex academic medical center environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Experience
    10+ years of directly related, progressively responsible experience, including leadership/managerial experience

Preferred

  • Education
    Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field is strongly preferred
  • Experience
    Progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare operations or healthcare information technology.
    Experience managing other leaders in an academic medical center or large integrated health system.
    Executive-level leadership experience overseeing Epic or comparable enterprise clinical, revenue cycle application, or EHR platforms.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Epic certification(s) or prior Epic executive sponsorship experience

JOB DUTIES

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and execute a multi-year Clinical and Revenue Cycle Applications strategy aligned with Health System priorities and enterprise IT direction.
    • Serve as executive sponsor for Epic optimization, upgrades, enhancements, and major clinical and revenue cycle system implementations.
    • Partner with the CHIO, CNIO, and other operational leaders to align clinical informatics, revenue cycle capabilities, and workflow design with organizational objectives.
    • Lead governance structures for application prioritization, investment decisions, and portfolio management.
    • Drive innovation across the clinical applications portfolio by identifying, prioritizing and implementing emerging technologies and workflow enhancements that improve patient care, clinician experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Provide executive oversight for Epic and all integrated third-party clinical and revenue cycle applications.
    • Ensure high availability, system performance, and service level attainment for Epic and other mission critical clinical and revenue cycle systems.
    • Oversee application lifecycle management, including implementation, upgrades, optimization, and retirement.
    • Monitor and report application performance metrics, service levels, and operational risks to executive leadership.
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Direct and develop a leadership team of Directors responsible for Epic and third-party clinical and revenue cycle applications.
    • Foster a high-performing, customer-focused culture emphasizing accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development initiatives to ensure sustainable organizational capability.
  • Financial & Resource Management
    • Develop and manage HSIR operating and capital budgets for Clinical and Revenue Cycle Applications.
    • Ensure responsible stewardship of financial resources, vendor relationships, and contractual obligations.
    • Evaluate return on investment and financial impact for major technology initiatives.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure systems meet regulatory requirements including HIPAA, CMS, and applicable revenue cycle-related regulatory and payer requirements.
    • Partner with compliance and cybersecurity teams to mitigate operational, regulatory, and data security risks.
    • Support downtime planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity for critical clinical and revenue cycle systems.
