WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer for our Roseville, CA office to join our Property & Buildings team. This is an exciting opportunity for a licensed Mechanical Engineer with significant healthcare design experience who is seeking both technical leadership and business development responsibility within a growing healthcare practice.

This role will actively participate in the full project cycle with a focus on complex healthcare sector projects including hospitals, medical office buildings, outpatient facilities, surgery centers, behavioral health facilities, laboratories, and other critical healthcare environments from the design phase through final construction closeout. The successful candidate will help drive the growth of WSP's healthcare practice throughout Northern California while supporting major multidisciplinary projects and client relationships.

Your Impact

• Lead mechanical engineering design for complex healthcare facilities and multidisciplinary building projects.
• Design and oversee HVAC systems, chilled water systems, heating systems, medical support infrastructure, ventilation systems, and energy-efficient building solutions.
• Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design documents ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes and healthcare requirements.
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering techniques throughout planning, conceptual design, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and occupancy phases.
• Serve as Engineer of Record on applicable projects.
• Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and client communications.
• Oversee and mentor mechanical engineers, designers, and technical staff.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, studies, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
• Collaborate with architectural, electrical, plumbing, structural, fire protection, and specialty engineering disciplines.
• Manage relationships with healthcare clients, architects, contractors, healthcare systems, and other project stakeholders.
• Participate in business development activities including proposal preparation, interviews, presentations, strategic pursuits, and client account growth.
• Support recruiting, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives within the California Property & Buildings practice.
• Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders throughout the healthcare market sector.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical engineering consulting.
• Extensive experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for healthcare facilities.
• Strong understanding of California Building Code, Title 24, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, and HCAI/OSHPD healthcare regulations.
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary healthcare projects through all phases of design and construction.
• Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central utility plants, sustainable design strategies, refrigeration systems, and building energy analysis.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and industry-standard mechanical engineering software.
• Well-developed technical, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to lead teams and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and profitably.
• Existing healthcare client relationships and industry network within Northern California preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• LEED AP certification.
• Healthcare design experience involving acute care hospitals, laboratories, surgery centers, medical campuses, and research facilities.
• 5+ years of project management experience.
• Experience supporting business development and client growth initiatives.
• WELL AP accreditation.
• Experience with energy modeling, decarbonization strategies, and sustainable healthcare facility design.
• Experience working on HCAI/OSHPD healthcare projects.
• 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $134,700 - $200,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
