Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter in our Bermuda Excess Casualty team

Our Excess Casualty team brings extensive expertise and maintains strong, long-standing relationships with our broker partners. We provide a consistent underwriting approach, efficient turnaround times and are supported by an experienced claims team. What you’ll be doing:

• Support assigned Underwriter(s) in all areas of prospecting, servicing, and retaining accounts.

• Organize and track all activities on assigned accounts.

• Assist with the preparation, review, and maintenance of account information and related documentation.

• Responsible for communication with internal teams, external brokers, and clients as needed.

• Monitor account status and follow up on outstanding items to support timely processing.

• Contribute to the underwriting workflow by maintaining accurate records and supporting administrative and analytical tasks.

• Perform additional duties as assigned in support of underwriting operations.

What you’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of Insurance Industry experience as a technical/underwriting assistant with similar duties is preferred.

• Willingness to be in the market with assigned Underwriter/s as necessary.

• Ability and willingness to learn and understand terminology, coverages and appetite for specific industry groups and customers.

• Knowledge of and willingness to work as a team, supporting internal and external customers. Comfortable challenging norms while collaborating with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task while demonstrating attention to detail.

• Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products, Nitro Pro, Image Right and Adobe Acrobat

Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
