Job Description

Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development together with the Vanderbilt Brain Institute invites applications for a faculty position in Educational Neuroscience at the assistant or early associate professor level (tenure-track or tenured). The position is intended to support the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the learning sciences from a neuroscientific perspective. The area of learning sciences is open, but could build on our existing strengths in language, reading, math, reasoning and socio-emotional processing. Neuroscientific methodologies could include, but are not limited to, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalography (EEG), near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and non-invasive stimulation (e.g., TMS, TDCS). Preference will be given to candidates with a capacity for conducting research that leverages existing faculty strengths yet sets new directions. The home department in Peabody will be determined based on the fit of the applicant, but likely involves Psychology and Human Development or Special Education. Synergistic work is highly valued at Vanderbilt. The successful candidate is expected to have interdisciplinary interests leading to collaboration with other departments, such as Psychology or Hearing and Speech, or units on campus, such as Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center or Vanderbilt Data Institute. Applicants are expected to have an established record of independent research and a strong potential for extramural support. Current faculty have funded projects supported by National Institute Health, National Science Foundation, and various foundations. Applicants should have a strong desire to teach and train both undergraduate and graduate students, and these endeavors are supported by Vanderbilt’s active Center for Teaching.
