Job Description

Job Title: Assistant - Title I Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Campus Principal Pay Grade: IS 2 � 187 Days

Dept./School: Smith High School Date Revised: August 7, 2026

Primary Purpose:
Assist in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative
requirements for at-risk students under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree or minimum of 48 college credits
  • SBEC Paraprofessional Certification or eligible for certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Knowledge of general office equipment

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous successful experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Providing one-on-one tutoring if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher;
  2. Assisting with classroom management, such as by organizing instructional materials;
  3. Providing instructional assistance in a computer laboratory;
  4. Conducting parental involvement activities;
  5. Providing instructional support in a library or media center;
  6. Acting as a translator;
  7. Providing instructional support services under the direct supervision of an appropriately certified teacher.
  8. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Moderate walking

Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (over 45 pounds).

Environment:
Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Other: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned
