
Job Title: Assistant Thrift Store Manager
FLSA Status Part-time - non-exempt
Reports to: Thrift Store Manager
Schedule: 25 Hours /Week
Rate of Pay $17/hour
Closing Date: 6/20/2026

Scope of Position/Essential Functions The Assistant Manager (Store) will provide assistance to the Store Manager for all functions of the store operations.
Thrift Store Operations
1. Will provide assistance with oversight of all donations (if needed).
2. Will stock, price, display, and discount all merchandise according to specified procedures as stated in the store operations manual and at the direction of the Store Manager
3. Will assist with the supervision of employees, AARP employees (while at work), and volunteers. Will assist with assigning work schedules and proper staffing.
4. Will maintain an attractive store, assisting with, and assigning appropriate daily cleaning and stocking.
5. Will assist the Store Manager with training of employees, clients, and volunteers regarding policies, procedures, and daily work assignments.
6. Will assist with, and be responsible for store security, opening and/or closing banking functions (as needed), IT, opening and/or closing register operations (as needed), and opening and/or closing sales reports (as needed). Will make the night deposit at the bank (as needed).
7. Will assist the Store Manager with employee evaluations, time clock issues and time off requests.
8. Will assist with, and be responsible for, outstanding customer service both in the community, and with customers, providing prompt and courteous service.
9. Will make recommendations to the Store Manager and the Envoy In-Charge regarding changes, modifications, needed repairs, advertising, and sales promotions.
10. Will assist with the training of workers regarding all safety rules and regulations.
11. Light Maintenance duties.
Other Duties as Assigned
Thrift Store Warehouse Operations
1. Ability to supervise and inspire clerk-sorters to ensure maximum productivity in processing raw donations from drop-off to sales floor.
2. Must be able to prioritize all donations quickly and accurately to ensure the best selling items will get on the sales floor ASAP.
3. Must be able to implement the vision of the Store Manager for all warehouse related operations.
4. Ability to manage the store in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager and the Assistant Thrift Store Manager.
5. Must have excellent customer service skills, with the ability to treat customers, donors, volunteers, and other employees with respect.
6. Ability to operate the bailer safely and meet quotas for “Rag Sales.”
7. Must be able to deliver Bales of Lading and other receipts/delivery slips, etc. to Assistant Thirft Store Manager in a timely manner; must be organized.
8. Will drive box truck to pick-up local donations and weekly salvage runs to Billings. Must be a good driver and able to earn certificate of completion from TSA.
9. Driver’s course and be approved by TSA as a TSA driver.
Education and Work Experience High school diploma or equivalent and retail experience: both marketing and merchandising. Supervisory experience. Must have a current, valid Wyoming driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to manage the store in the absence of the Manager. Must be able to multi-task. Must have excellent customer service skills, with the ability to treat customers, clients, volunteers, and employees with respect. Must be able to successfully complete a background screening.
Software-related skills: Microsoft Word and Excel required, along with Lotus Notes. Must have a working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
Must be minimally 21 years of age and possessing a valid in-state Driver's License
Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver, ability to remain in a stationary position, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, Ability to access and produce information from a computer, Ability to understand written information.
