Job Description

The University of Montana, Department of Political Science, within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor of Public Law, or Law and Politics to begin August 2027.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach, mentor, and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Supervise graduate theses and professional papers
  • Engage in student group advising, community talks and civic discourse offerings
  • Serve as a member on university committees

Teaching expectations include: introductory course in American government, and offerings on such topics as courts and judicial politics, the Supreme Court, comparative legal institutions/legal systems, and constitutional law at all levels (introductory, advanced/upper division undergraduate, and graduate).

Non-Tenurable Faculty: Department of Political Science

Title: Assistant Teaching Professor

Schedule: Full time, academic year

Salary: $65,000- $70,000 (salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)

Primary Duties: Primary duties include teaching, scholarship, and service

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Political Science
  • Demonstrated expertise in public law, or law and politics
  • Experience and evidence of effective teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active research agenda as demonstrated by conference presentations, or publications
