Assistant Teaching Professor
Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (EDHS) College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC)

SALARY RANGE: $60,300 - $68,800/year

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The Department of Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (EDHS) at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) (http://edhs.umbc.edu) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic educator to join our newly updated curriculum, which addresses the evolving landscape of emergency and disaster health. The Assistant Teaching Professor responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction across online, hybrid, and in-person formats, including clinical courses; leading clinical simulations and laboratory training; developing innovative, evidence-based course materials and assessments; providing academic and professional mentorship to students, including capstone oversight; and engaging in departmental, college, and university service, including accreditation maintenance.

Assistant Teaching Professors teach four courses in the Fall semester and four courses in the Spring semester each academic year. Initial appointments are multi-year contracts with eligibility for renewal and promotion within the teaching faculty ranks. Potential summer teaching for additional compensation may be available.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include

• A Master’s degree in emergency health services, public health, disaster science, or a related field focused on pre-hospital emergency health services, high-fidelity simulations, and paramedicine;
• Current Paramedic (NRP) or higher EMS level certification in good standing;
• MICRB certification (or the ability to obtain it within five years);
• Demonstrated success in university-level teaching;
• Experience with high-fidelity clinical simulation and laboratory instruction;
• Experience working with diverse student populations;
• Experience with online and hands-on clinical skills teaching.

Preferred qualifications include

• Experience serving as a Clinical Coordinator for a CoAEMSP-accredited program,
• Expertise in disaster epidemiology, emergency management policy, or writing-intensive curriculum development.
