GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for assisting the educator with planning and implementation of educational programming for three- and/or four-year old children which will reflect sound development practices and will be inclusive of the children’s own heritage.This position is responsible to provide services in a manner which supports the early childhood care and education needs of all children enrolled at the Head Start Center (hereinafter, Center).Staff are responsible to ensure the Center is compliant with the Federal Office of Head Start Performance Standards and WI Department of Children.

Every employee of Stockbridge Munsee Community is expected to present themselves in a professional manner to customers as well as other departments. Stockbridge Munsee Community strives to provide a provide a positive team environment where everyone contributes.

This is a non-exempt position at 40 hours/week for 42 weeks/year (negotiable).Continuation of position is contingent upon funding allocations.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening

2. Must be at least 21 years of age

3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record

4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays

5. Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1.Build an understanding of the Center program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, tribal leaders and the community;

2.Assist in establishing a clear philosophy and set of overarching goals that guide the program and the decisions that affect each aspect of the program;

3.Assist in identifying resource materials to assist with program implementation;

4.Assist in the development of a curriculum which meets the needs of all students and is based on learning theory and other cognitive psychology findings on how students learn and leads to improved student learning;

5.Assist with the preparation of detailed educational plans for each student which identify strengths, needs, resources, interests and special skills, and intervention/support strategies; Support the development of materials necessary to carry out lesson plans;

6.Assist in the Implementation and carrying out of lesson plans to assist each student in the acquisition of meaningful content knowledge;

7.Ensure educational experiences and strategies employed within the classroom are based on current research and include developmentally appropriate materials.

8.Support flexibility and encourages experimentation and innovation in learning;

9.Promote interdisciplinary approaches and the integration of curricula across environments when appropriate;

10.Foster each student’s curiosity and desire to learn by providing engaging activities designed to increase their ability to reason and solve problems, offering both teacher-directed and student-directed activities;

11.Offer each family opportunities to increase their own skills by providing written and verbal information as well as encouraging participation in classroom and family education activities.

12.Support each student’s need to feel safe, and cared for while providing guidance in social interactions with adults and peers.

13.Help the Center program achieve its goals by staying informed of pertinent day-to-day activities and adjusting own work accordingly.

14.Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for students, families, and staff.

15.Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly.

16.Adhere to all tribal law, personnel policies and procedures in addition to departmental policies and procedures.

17.The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position.The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

1.Minimum of an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Human Services or related field from an accredited College or University is required (MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DEGREE TO COMPLETE APPLICATION). Exception for those who have at least 6 college credits earned and agree to completing an approved education plan and starting school within 3 months to attain an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education will be considered.

2. This position requires the unique skill set of being both detail oriented and deeply comfortable with change and ambiguity. This position requires creative problem solving in a fast and complex environment and a successful candidate will be one that thrives in that environment.

3.Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

4.Ability to work cooperatively with Center staff, parents of students, and other child support systems in the best interests of the students.

5.Ability to develop and efficiently and effectively carry out age-appropriate activities with enrolled students.

6.Ability to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment by following health and safety procedures including universal precautions, frequent handwashing and sanitizing of equipment.

7.Ability to clearly communicate orally, in writing, assertively and effectively.

8.Ability to process information effectively, identify and define problems and make timely, objective decisions.

9.Ability to establish clear boundaries and maintain a safe, effective learning environment,

10.Ability to quickly evaluate and manage teen behaviors.

11.Ability to operate standard office equipment including a computer, laminator, and copy/ fax machine. Additional skill and knowledge of smart boards, iPads, and other advanced technologies preferred.

12.Must be dependable and reliable and have demonstrated the ability to maintain a satisfactory employment record with any previous employer.

13.Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters.(Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to start of employment.)

14.Current Fist Aid and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain these certifications within (30) days of date of employment is required.Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.

15.Adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.A Tuberculosis (TB) screening and/or TB Skin Test is required prior to employment and annually thereafter.

16.May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine proficiency.

17.Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.

18.Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

19.Stockbridge-Munsee Community Food Safety Certification is required with in three (3) months of employment.Must maintain Food Safety Certification during employment.

20.Work as a responsive team member maintaining effective working relationships with staff, families and supervisors in a complex, multi-cultural environment via a participatory style of management.

21.Process information effectively to learn new material, identify and define problems, make timely, objective decisions and communicate needed changes to the team.

22.Strong analytical and decision-making skills are required.Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize program objectives and responsibilities implementing a system of shared authority and decision-making.

23.Previous personal computer experience is required including knowledge of Microsoft Office.

24.Excellent communication skills are required.Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in diverse and challenging situations.

25.Strong customer service background and communication skills are required.

26.Must be willing and able to develop an understanding of the concept of tribal sovereignty as it relates to the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.

27.Knowledge with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, its history, culture, and language is preferred.

28.Must be willing and able to obtain additional education and training.

Physical Requirements

1.Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds; occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.

2. Must be able to spend time in- out-of-doors in summer and winter months,

3.Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple and firm grasping.

4.Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter
